Lighting - Breakfast Nook

So I've been thinking about the breakfast nook. The breakfast nook faces the street and is very visible. I'm thinking that we'll probably just put up some cafe curtains on the lower part of the window and leave the top of the windows open.

This means we need a badass light for the world (or at least those passing by on Eubanks) to see.

Originally I was thinking something like a Nelson bubble lamp.

It's kind of expensive, though.

So then I was thinking we could just get the cheaper alternative.

This is only $14!

Or we could go with something more round...

From there I thought it would be fun to look at REALLY expensive lighting.

I'm thinking that with Jeremy's math skills and my exacto blade skills we could recreate something like this.

And then I found this one.

When I was a kid my mom and I would make ghosts to hang from trees at Halloween time. We would blow up balloons and dip cheesecloth in a starch mixture and lay it over the balloon. When it would dry we would pop the balloon and end up with some cool ghosts that we'd hang from the tree in the front yard.

I'm thinking I can recreate this light pendant with the same technique.

I can get a large (Jeremy says "I mean BIG. BIIIIG.") bouncy ball from Walmart or a dollar store. Then I would need to find some thin yarn and thread - I'm thinking all white and maybe an accent color like green to go with the rest of the kitchen. Or possibly an orange accent to give it some retro flair and contrast to the green. Or something more subtle like a metallic silver or gold.

Then I would dip the yarn in a starch mixture and wrap it around the ball. After it's all wrapped around the ball the way I want it I'll create a hole large enough to fit my hand into (to change out the light bulb later). Then attach a light kit to it and voile! We've got a custom made light pendant with a designer look!

Or it could end up looking like a 6th grade craft project.

You can tell the Nelson is the best because it's the most expensive!

How about some IKEA options? I like the FADO and KNAPPA pendants, although the latter might be too ubiquitous for you guys.
