Landscaping Inspiration

I'm not that girl that starts daydreaming about Spring two days into Fall but...

IMG_5468

I am thinking about landscaping for next year. I really love this ivy (does anyone know what that lime green goodness is called?) taking over at Sara Sara Cupcakes. It seems low-maintenance with a lot of visual POW! I know nothing about landscaping so I think it's going to take 6 months worth of planning, researching and visualizing in order to execute it in the Spring.

This Fall/Winter I want to tackle a few things that just can't seem to get done in the house - like our guest bedroom, office and maybe finally hanging a door on basement entry. We also need to do some boring stuff like caulking the windows and insulating the attic.

And then when spring comes around we can focus on the landscaping. Like:
• Lime green and purple-spiky ivy
• Wild flower garden
• Veggie garden
• Green, green grass
• Patio furniture

this looks like sweet potato vine - you need to plant it every year,(an annual...i think)it grows FAST and dies late fall

i agree that it looks like sweet potato vine, although i've never seen it planted like that...

Yep! Sweet potato vine. There is a shop in Moore that has patches alternating this, and a deep purple plant I don't know the name of. It's gorgeous.

Just started reading your blog - love it!
I ALSO agree that's sweet potato vine (lime green).
The purple-spiky is purple heart/purple queen/wandering jew/Tradescantia pallida
This is my fave wild flower site: www.wildseedfarms.com

Yup. Sweet potato. It also comes in purple, and yes, an annual. We used it all the time when I used to garden at the zoo.

See! I knew all of you would know. Thanks y'all!

it's really beautiful! i love it.

I suppose there really is no reason in adding the name of the vine since it's obviously been squared away, so I'm just popping in to say I love your blog. I also love how many photos you post of the 'hood. I'm just down the street in the Plaza District. Keep the inspiration coming! :)

I am :) It is indeed sweet potato vine, we have some growing in pots on the back patio, but this year we only planted the purple ones. My parents amazing backyard is COVERED in it. It's very easy to grow and very low maintenance, but it can get out of hand and go crazy. To some people this is bad, but I love it, because I love wild overgrown landscaping that looks completely natural. Also, I brought in a few cuttings of it last winter and kept them in vases in the windows, and they grew in just water. In the Spring I just replanted them outside.

Aura - I was totally thinking of you when I wrote that! You are Summertime personified! However, I love Fall.

I definitely love landscaping that does it's own thing. That's also why I want to have a lot of wild flowers. Oh and I love the idea of clipping some for vases. Is the purple more spikyish?

Happy Place - Yay! I love it when locals find the blog. Jeremy and I keep on wanting to hit up events in Plaza District but never make it that way. Any day now!

Sally Fineup - Thanks for the link! I'll have to check it out.
