Right Time, Right Place

It is fascinating to me how we only end up with the friends we have, the family we have and the people we fall in love with simply by being in the right place at the right time.

After going on a vacation with Jeremy last summer I had this idea to map out every single place we've ever lived, when we lived there and how we wound up where we are now.

Picture 1
Blue = where Jeremy has lived
Green = where I have lived
Yellow = places we've been together

There will be a more graphic version of this - something a little more Feltronish or a little more Subway Mapish (but with an element of time involved) - this is just part of the process of getting there. It could even go back further and become a family tree of sorts.

Oh and this is the whole world.

The world I want to see. All of it.

Which brings me back to my guest bedroom moodboard / inspiration:

I really want a map wall mural and some tacks to do some old-fashion tracking of where we've been and where we're going.

Also, since creating this particular moodboard I've broken down the guest bedroom elements into something that is a little less theme-y (which I think makes the room look a little too juvenile here). Check that post out here. Though, I do still want a wall-sized map or two of the US and of the whole world.

I'm always completely amazed by happenstance. I could go crazy thinking about it and the what ifs.. Reminds me of the movie Sliding Doors.. and how our lives could be so drastically different if maybe we had just slept 2 minutes longer.. or gotten up 2 minutes earlier.

i've been wanting to do something similar to chronicle our travels but with an old world map, pins and different colored yarn.

although i'm kind of digging going the feltron route.

groovy idea...I like the idea of doing something concrete like this too - on a wall somewhere...perhaps in an office surrounded by a collection of globes and books galore.

You've lived in the UP Michigan? That's lovely! I love it up there, it's one of my favorite places in this whole big US; my grandmother grew up there in the town of Watersmeet.
And I love your mood board :)

O&P: Melina - Yellow is just places we've visited or vacationed at. My dear friend, Liz, has a family cabin on Lake Superior that we spent time at this summer. It was 50 degrees in July!

In my July archives I have 4 picture posts all about our trip:

i think about that all the time... all the people out there who we'll never get a chance to meet, and that we COULD be friends with... etc. crazy!

I have a huge map on my home office. I call my home office my travel room. It's where I hang all my travel pictures, along with the massive map. The map has pens of all the places I've been. It seems like everyone enjoys looking at my map to see where I've vacationed.

I did something similar when I was younger, putting a push pin in every place I have been on a US map. It's fun to look and remember. I couldn't believe how many places I had been.
