Old Bones
Our home celebrates her 80th birthday this year. She's got old bones, wrinkles and a few scars but radiates warmth and love.

The longer we're here the more I adore the pockmarks, the dust, the layers upon layers of paint, the creaks and the cracks. The imperfect details in our home that say "Boy, have I got a story to tell."
So... Happy Birthday, old lady. I love you.

lovely photos, and so true! old houses have so much history and part of that history is how the owners have lived and loved the house over the years. some of our friends think we are crazy for not covering up some of the imperfections (like the back of the closet door that is covered with old mad magazine stickers - clearly used to be a kids room!) but we love it.
great post. your house has a few more years then our 1960 ranch. we also embrace all of our imperfections. it's real.
We live in an old house in Mesta Park and I love the same things about it that you love about yours. I grew up in a new home and had no idea (until my husband and I bought the one we are in now) what kind of character and attachment a shelter could give. There are times where I am beyond frustrated with the noisy windows and how they don't operate any longer and the fact that the front porch paint is chipping but I cannot imagine living in anything different ever again. Our house is 95 years old this year. We are outgrowing it much too quickly because I want to be in it to throw it a centennial birthday celebration!
darling, thank you so much for the lovely wishes - haha!!1 i actually love the "find god in the details" ;-))) it makes sense, lol!
anyway, congratulation for the 80's Bday - it is always so touching to feel both of your love towards to your home and house - something i have little opportunity to relate to as i have hardtime to feel belonged to the rental apt ... so i truly envy you for that, but of course, a nice way :D,
have a fantastic week, xx
Katie - I love stuff like that!
Mintagehome - Yes. Real. I think a big attraction to new builds is the fact that everything is shiny and new but most of the time quality and "realness" is lacking in both design and materials.
Christa - I love Mesta Park! It would be so sweet to throw your home a 100-year birthday party!
UnoCosa - Of course! Haha! I do think it would be more difficult to fall in love with an apartment but you have an entire city full of love!
Oh my I love this post and your house! Living in Boston I am surrounded by older homes and love all the stories they have to tell. The door knobs alone are to die for! Thanks for sharing : )
we have some doorknobs just like that!
well...we did, until i pulled it one day and the other side fell on the floor. now we have a new knob on that door. haha.
aren't they so full of character though?
Great pictures - great post. Sometimes I wish we lived in an old house like yours just to have that character and those stories!
Creategirl - I do love the old doorknobs. My older sister rented a historical apartment with those doorknobs when I was 13. I've loved them ever since.
Aaron - you probably just need to tighten a screw! Ours do that too sometimes. Ha.
Amanda - Thanks! Older homes do come with their own problems (we have an 80 year old sewer line made of tar paper) - but it's worth it.
