The striped hallway: Revisited

I realized I don't have any updated images of our hallway since we changed out the light fixture.

The kitchen is my favorite area in our home but I have to say the hallway comes in at a close second.

P.S. 3 months later - I am no longer afraid to stumble through this hallway to the bathroom, in the middle of the night, after seeing Paranormal Activity.

This is basically the coolest hallway ever.

I love it.

AND the light fixture too!

Wow, looks fabulous. So striking.

Oh my, I think my jaw is going to fall off. This is utterly amazing. Bravo!

Love, love, love it!

Love the stripes. Love.

Oh my gosh, this is fabulous!

this is the coolest idea EVER.. so rad!!!!

this hallway makes me want to go buy a house with a hallway so I can paint it just like yours. Love it!

Holy cow those stripes are awesome! Talk about drama and wow factor! Great job!

I gotta know...how long did this take? We're *thinking* about doing this in our entry hall - not as bold but with horizontal stripes none-the-less. Am I looking at a month long project or maybe a weekend? We did one large horizontal stripe in our bedroom and it took 1 case of beer and like 8 hours.

Jenn - It was definitely a process. I would say it takes two weekends but that's with a good amount of drying time in between.

I have some tips:
1. Paint the underlayer the lighter color. Let it dry for a good 2-3 days.

2. Tape off your stripes (make sure you double-check your math).

3. Paint OVER the tape with the base coat color (the lighter color). This will seal off your tape - so any paint seeping under the tape is already the color of the stripes it's taping off.

Let that dry for a day.

4. Paint your darker color. Let dry for a day. Then remove tape. Voila!

Tip #3, my favorite. Genius. I'll let you know if/when/how it goes.

Fabulous hallway! After seeing your blog, it inspired me to paint my own hallway exactly the same! Except I didn't read your tips on the procedure and didn't see #3...which would have really come in handy if I had known to paint over the tape first....because I had huge problems with the paint seeping onto the other stripe..and so had to wait a day to go back and retouch all the leaks with a small paintbrush.
