An Apple a Day

Is what I eat for breakfast every morning. Just enough to break the fast.

I know it's not quite earth-shattering or news worthy but with my upcoming life changes I am a buzzing with anxiety and need to focus on the simpler things. Dive back into the details and save the big picture for later.

What do you guys do to bring yourself back down to earth (and chill out) when you're mind is racing?

Xanax.

Rachel - Ha! Considering it.

Watch Back to the Future and maybe some animal crackers with Nutella.

I bring a little notebook with me EVERYWHERE. If I write everything down in bullet form it sort of purges it for me. Weird, I know. I also like to sit down with tea for a few minutes in the afternoon and just zone out or knit. And running helps me.

I keep a journal and a box of crayola hidden in our guestroom so if I need an hour or so to zone out I just close the door, crash on the floor and doodle or write down my thoughts until I'm feeling back to my normal self.

I used to keep all my emotions in until I would crack out and become this totally insane maniac; but for the past 6 years, I've found doodling in a journal to be really effective when my mind is racing like crazy or when I need to keep my cool in not so cool situations.. kind of lame, but it works for me! : )

I get as far away from a screen (tv, computer, cell phone) as I can. It usually involved bringing my easel outside and painting on my patio, baking a ridiculous amount of muffins or going for a run. :)

Margie - Ha! I can visualize doing that.

Kelly - I love lists. I think giving my anxiety some structure would help me pinpoint and get over it.

DOM - ME TOO. I refer to my breakdowns as "emptying my emotional trashcan". Journaling makes perfect sense.

Soph - Yes. I think disconnecting from the buzz of technology would be helpful. The outdoors always calm me down.

I NEED TO FIND THAT APPLE.

I will go to a coffee house and get lost in the coffee. I usually bring a book or my journal. The other day I was sitting outside with coffee and had the sun on me and the breeze blowing. I stopped and closed my eyes and let my senses take it all in. It was definitely a stress reliever.

crack a nice crisp beer....psha! i also love making lists. helps me get organized when my mind is a flutter. sometimes just lying on my bed on my back and staring at the ceiling for awhile.

I snuggle my babied and soak in their smell.

Seriously? Just an apple? My breakfast tummy is hungry at the thought...

Tea. Tea stops my mind racing. A pot of tea can't be rushed, it takes time to steep. A great little pot, yummy tea, a little jug of milk, a favourite cup or mug.

Enjoy your apple in the morning.xo

Kathryn - I do put peanut butter on the apple. And it's true, I'm usually ready for lunch by 9:30AM at which time I have a banana or some other snack to hold me over.

A pot of tea can't be rushed - I like that.
