Sprouts and Lentils

a. Upon a couple of recommendations I'm trying to start some sprouts to snack on. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. They've been soaking for a few days but aren't really sprouting... But they do look pretty.
b. I made some lentil patties the other night. I used to be a big fan of salmon patties but now the thought of salmon packets and the gelatinous goo grosses me out. These are a nice alternative.
I did not really write down the recipe as I was throwing this together but here's the gist of it:
Approximately:
2 c. lentils
1 c. brown rice
1 onion finely chopped
2 egg whites
1/2 c bread crumbs
Spices: turmeric, cumin, cumin seeds, fenugreek, coriander seeds
Mix all of that together and form patties. If they're too moist add more bread crumbs. If they're too dry add another egg white or maybe a little olive oil. Cook in heated sunflower oil over med-high heat until browned on each side.

shut up. i am so making those.
I sprout all of the time! Here's a little tip: After soaking for 8-24 hours (depending on what you are sprouting) drain the water out of the jar until they are damp/wet but not wet/wet. Place them in a warmish dark place -like inside the oven. Keep the lid off so that they get oxygen. By the next day you should have sprouts! Keep in the fridge from this point on. Good luck!
Kate - Thank you! Okay - so... They've been soaking for like 3 days. Should I just start over?
You always make veggies look so yummy.
Yes I think you'll have to start over. They may have drowned...
