Homemade Vanilla Extract and A Homemade Life

Liz has gone from making fun of to fully embracing and supporting my "homemade-local-organic" brouhaha - with homemade vanilla extract (can you see those vanilla beans in there!?) and Molly Wizenberg's book A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table. The vanilla extract needs about another month to mature but I can't wait to curl up with this book. Thanks, Liz!

Oooo! I need to learn how to do that. I go through vanilla extract like crazy. Its beautiful as decoration too!
Very impressive! The bottle is nice and "old-timey" too.
You guys are going to make me ice cream with that this summer ,right?
so, i think i have the same light fixture as you do in your striped hallway. the artichoke looking light?! did yours come with a plug on the end? mine did and i've been trying to figure out how to install it like yours. any advice you could give me would be great.
if yours didn't come with a plug, never mind :) haha, thanks!
Ashley - you know I don't know how to do that!
A little lovely - Yes, it's the artichoke light from IKEA. Neither Jeremy or I can recall whether or not the light came with a plug - but we think it may have. We just cut off the plug and hard wired the light into the existing wires in the ceiling. Oh - and we bought a little dome for the cord to run through to cover the gaping hole in the ceiling. Hope that helps!
good to know, thanks for your help!
And that dome is rigged up with fishing line! :D
Wow this book is definitely a must have for me at the moment.
I did not even know it was possible to make your own vanilla extract.
Wow, this is beautiful! I love the packaging for the extract and i'm sure the vanilla will be delicious too!
