I just picked up and moved to North Carolina about 3 weeks ago and it is fabulous here! The weather is to die for and everyone is so nice and helpful. I'm sure Liz will do just fine!

Love your blog, by the way!

i just moved to durham about 3 weeks ago, and i am working downtown in the american tobacco campus... if liz wants any advice (ie. restaurants, bars, etc), you can have her email me... i know that is so random, but i have been relying on the advice of others!

Naurnie - Liz is working in the American Tobacco campus too! The two of you should definitely get in touch.

I've packed up and moved cross country to cities where I knew not a soul four times in my life. I think everyone should try it at least once.

I'm not sure that I have any helpful advice to offer, other than to have fun and HAVE FUN!

My brother-in-law lives in one of the coolest towns ever -- Carrboro, NC. It is right outside of Chapel Hill. It has a great farmers' market, several taco trucks, a crepe truck, and lots of other fun things. Definitely worth a visit!

5 years ago I packed up my life and moved from Maryland to Alabama. It was a culture shock but I've loved ever minute of it. If there was anywhere else in the states I'd move to in a heartbeat it would be Anytown North Carolina.

My best advice - get out there and explore. North Carolina holds a special place in my heart, we used to own a beach home there and I spent most of my formative years growing up on the shore.

Best wishes and good luck with the move and settling in Liz! ox

this is my first time on your blog. so i don't know liz. but i do know that you are now my new blog crush.
congrats :)

I grew up just outside of Raleigh, so it's always exciting when I read that people are moving to NC (and even more exciting when they love it). I second another commenter's suggestion--Carrboro and Chapel Hill are both great towns.

Sigh. Just typing about my love for NC is making me want to move back even more than I already do.

Good luck to Liz!

When I got divorced, I picked up and moved from NYC back to my hometown in CA, which I had left two with my husband two years prior. I had put my education on hold to move to support his career and I didn't know what the hell I was going to do when I got back home. Through the kindness and generosity of a near-stranger, I was able to get a great job, which I love. Today was my 3rd anniversary in my position, in fact. I have a swell boyfriend now and I'm really happier than I ever have been in my life. There's my story! :)

All the best to Liz on the new chapter in her life!

this picture just makes my insides say "ouch". safe travels, k!

It's so nice to read all these sweet things about NC after living here my whole life. Definitely get over to Carrboro and Chapel Hill for some fun! And Kathleen- come visit Liz in NC soon!

Oops K- didnt realize I was logged in under my boyfriends account for that last comment, haha. But seriously, we love NC and that area is awesome.

I moved to Pittsburgh with my husband this past August and we didn't know a soul where we were going. I would say that in the times you're alone, never abandon your hobbies. Get out and explore your new surroundings. Find groups or clubs or social gatherings to mingle in. And give it time. Eventually, you WILL adapt.
