Twenty-eight.
28 years ago today my dad almost named me Cinco. I think it would've been fitting.
Today I am 28.
And typical of most in their late twenties, I think I have the meaning of life all sorts of figured out (but not really. Okay, maybe sort of.) I am hyper-aware of my own mortality, and I have given in to being completely baby crazy - the two may or may not be related. I've got little wrinkles around my eyes and gravity is just starting to do it's thing - I alternate between caring and not. I have an extensive bucket list and am planning on crossing off a good portion of that list this year. I'm going to eat dinner at a fancy place with my dearest friends and we're all going to be wearing sombreros.
And to celebrate Cinco de Kathleen with you guys I've decided to finally show you the ampersand tattoo. What does it mean? You & me.

Getting older is making me feel blah. It might not help that I'm some sort of weird aging paradox. I'm 29. I look like I'm 15. And yet I have old person problems- a little arthritis in my knees, a minor circulation problem, and was just diagnosed with glaucoma. WTF.
I feel like I'm just starting to figure things out and it makes me angry/sad that so much of my life has already gone by without me having a real clue as to what I was supposed to be doing. So now it's about playing catch up.
But I have a really great life, so luckily it's just these "in my head" problems I'm dealing with, for the most part.
And I lurve your tat! Got a second one in January and hoping to get a third before this year is out.
You look amazing so don't fret about any lines.
Getting older sucks but what can you do? I try not to associate my birthday with my age. Im old all year long - my birthday is a day to celebrate no matter how much of an old fart I am.

I'm 33 right now, going to hit the big 34 in September and I feel so much younger. I feel like I'm 28. Really, I do even though what does 28 feel like? Certainly not like 33. The faint 11 in between my eyes bothers me a little but not really. I feel fabulous!

28 is a good year. I have enjoyed being in my late 20's. I think that we are finally moving into a stage in life where we know who we are and can live that out in freedom. So cheers to 28 and being a strong, creative, intelligent, and adventurous young woman! Hope it is a gloriously wonderful day for you.

I love your blog because I can relate to you so much. We're the same age (minus 3 weeks), recently married, love design and are super into our home and garden. I feel like getting older is just getting better and better. I can't imagine going back and living out my early 20s again. I am truly living the best years of my life!

I started getting serious baby-crazy at 28, too. Still no baby, so I'll let you know, the fever does not let up. Since turning 29, my last year of my twenties has been spent thinking of how my twenties are over and I have nothing to show for any of it. No marriage, no house, no babies, no badass job that pays well. I haven't even got to travel. Rounding off the twenties in a horrible economy has been a complete disappointment. Bleh.
I always thought growing older meant growing out of touch. I thought when I saw people not keeping up with fashion or music as much as I did that it was because they were unable to because age had caused their awareness to develop a block or something. I know better now, and life is so much better.
I became hyper-aware of life and stages about a year ago when I got married. I too see a few creases, and everything isn't as perky as it used to be. I don't get checked out much anymore, but I really don't care.
I wear comfy clothes, I'm a lot more comfortable with myself and I smile a lot more and I don't care who notices that my 4 years of braces didn't solve all my dental issues. Life is good and it's because I notice a lot less of what everyone else thinks.

Happy birthday Kathleen... a day belated. My birthday is on the 11th (27) and I was having a conversation with my fiance last night that sounded eerily similar to your post. It's pleasant to know that we all go through these confusions and self-analyzing around our birthdays. I think each birthday will be shocking from now on, pleasantly so perhaps.

A former colleague pointed out that 27 and 28 are excellent ages to be. You're in your *late* 20s, so people take you more seriously, but you haven't yet entered the realm of "OHMAHGAWD30!!11!!"
I've actually really enjoyed getting older, and I admit that's partially due to the fact that I get carded regularly and that I was married to the wrong guy in my 20s. Plus, the year I turned 21, I had a roommate who turned 30--we partied together and a fantastic time, so I had a skewed perception of "The Big 3-0" when I hit it. (And now she's 40 and still fabulous.)
Lately, I've noticed that I'm at an age where people a little younger (my grad school classmates) seek my advice...and actually take it. I'm old enough to guide them, but not too old to be cool. And my incredible younger cousin told me I'm a role model for her.
That's an awesome place to be in, and you can't be in it when you're 22. ;)
