This room has been neglected since we moved in two years ago. It had been a dumping ground for things we should've donated/tossed but weren't quite ready to part with. Transforming this room into an office meant quite a bit of sorting and organizing as well as painting and decorating. I'm still figuring out how to best keep my projects organized and will eventually overhaul both closets in the room to accommodate any storage needs I will have as my business grows.

As far as the look and feel of the office I knew I wanted it to feel different from the rest of our home but still be cohesive with the overall aesthetic. I also wanted the space to match the tone of my blog so I tied those together with the use of color (teal and browns). Overall, this space is much more colorful than the rest of our house but I pulled in elements that are found in the rest of our home like the Fado lamp and the sheepskin to tie the spaces in with each other.

Here is the breakdown:
+ Walls: Sherwin Williams Blue Sky (SW0063) in flat finish & black chalkboard paint
+ Desk: Vintage metal desk found at a used office furniture store for $65
+ Desk Surface: Self-healing cutting mat
+ Desk Chair: Garage sale find ($5)
+ Sharpie and Moleskine Notebook: My #1 design and organizational tool
+ Rug: Hand-me-down from my sister
+ Cork Tile inspiration board(s)
+ Mid-century Modern Chair & Ottoman: Hand-me-down from Liz
+ Sheepskin: IKEA
+ Side Table: Acrylic table from Target
+ Light: FADO table lamp from IKEA
+ Shelving: Industrial Chrome Wire Shelving Unit from Lowes
+ Office kitty: Mister Scooty Boots

Kathleen It looks great! Was it serendipitous that the self healing mat fits your desk perfectly? I have a million and none of them fit my desk. :(

Man, y'all killed it. I want your office! (First I guess I'd need to be in a home-office situtation, of course...)

Kelly - NUH UH! This is definitely a sign that we should be friends.

Dana - The mat is about 2 inches shy of fitting perfectly but otherwise there was a little bit of measuring and searching to find the right mat.

LOVE it. I especially love the tag still hanging from the top drawer of the desk.

Hallie - I love that tag too. It will always be a part of this desk.

It looks fantastic! The shelves are superb!

Wow, it looks fantastic! Wonderful job!

Love it! Its vibrant, full of energy, and retro stylish - just like you.

i love those walls - the color seems so inspiring and conducive to work :) and the cutting board on your desk is what you use for cutting fabric and patterns too...you may just get inspired to start sewing on top of everything else...i could picture a sewing machine that replaces that laptop every now and again ;)

Carlee - I actually used to work in a fabric store and have dabbled with sewing. My machine is up in the closet collecting dust but I do imagine I'll but it out any day now.

i LOVE it! so cheery and calm and inspiring all at the same time...perfect for a home office! :)

love the color combination and the chalkboard wall. all of the plants on the shelf make me want to run out and get a big group of new house plants.

the desk it so cute!

Fun fun! I love the desk and the chairs and the little acrylic side table. And the light! So much good light!

I love the chrome shelving...and the kittie!! I have always been a huge fan of industrial shelving, but have not yet had the space to use it. I can't wait for the day to come!

lookin' good!!

I'm so happy everyone loves it! Thanks you guys for the feedback. Any of you are welcome over for a cup of coffee anytime.

Love love love that blue paint.

I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THIS!!

Great, GREAT job with your office! It looks like a place where magic happens!

love, rudi

I used to have an old metal desk just like that with a really beat up/scratched top, and I wish I had been smart enough to leave my cutting mats on top of it. Super smart idea!

the stripes! wallpaper? paint? how did you do it?

Benson - The stripes are paint. Check out this post (and the comments) to see it: http://jeremyandkathleen.blogspot.com/2010/01/striped-hallway-revisited.html
