Listening

JKMusic

Now that I'm working alone it is essential to have music going at all times. I've got some new and old favorites to share.

Starting in the upper left hand corner and going clockwise:
Passion Pit Chunk of Change - I've been obsessed with this album. It will always remind me of Spring 2010 and big life changes
Sigur Ros () - This one is hard to listen to without crying like a baby, but it's so worth it
Vampire Weekend Contra
Chad VanGaalen Infiniheart
Neon Indian Psychic Chasms - If you can't tell yet, I'm a total hipster.
Arcade Fire Funeral
Busdriver Roadkill Overcoat - My favorite hip-hop artist and one of the best shows I've ever been too.
Patrick Wolf The Magic Position
TV on the Radio Young Liars - Staring at the Sun might be the sexiest song ever. And I know it's morbid, but if I die I want Province played at my funeral. P.S. I wrote my first will at 5. This is normal for me.
The Bird and the Bee - Let's cheer ourselves up with this one, shall we?
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros Up From Below - Listen to Home and tell me that doesn't make you want to ditch all your belongings and road trip across the US in an old VW van. I dare you.
Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus
Eleni Mandell Miracle of Five - this is my go to chill with a glass of wine and dinner album
Yeasayer Odd Blood
Nick Drake Bryter Layter - When I first heard Nick Drake almost a decade ago my mind was blown. I was sad I had gone most of my life without hearing his music - which is now timeless, tragic and beautiful.

There are so many more albums and artists I could go on and on about. Like how cute Peter, Bjorn & John were in concert. Or how much I love Lil' Wayne, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga. Maybe this will have to be an ongoing series.

So tell me - who are your all time (or new) favorites?

Phoenix will FOREVER be associated with you guys and the climbing gym. Can't remember why exactly..maybe we listened to it on the way over one time? Anyway, it just instantly transports me back.

And for me, the new Black Keys album-FABOOSH!

LOVE Passion Pit. I have an obsession with the Manners album - I think I'll have to listen to Chunk of Change now.

Phoenix - I saw them at the Greek in LA - they sounded as good live as the studio.

Edward Sharpe - they are great, too.

Metric ain't too shabby :o)

Love the list! It includes many of my favorites as well. Lately I've been listening to St. Vincent, Beach House, Heartless Bastards and Sleigh Bells.

Nice list. Is that Yeasayer album as good as All Hour Cymbals? I forgot how much I liked that.

Also, do you listen to Animal Collective and/or Panda Bear? Good stuff.

I'm a lurking fan of your blog, but also a music geek who couldn't help but comment on this. :-)

I can't get enough of The Swell Season.

Also, I think you might like my husband's old band The Chemistry Set. You can hear some of their stuff on Pandora. I don't consider this "promotion" since they aren't together anymore so there isn't really anything to promote. Just think you might dig 'em.

i have similar music interests (especially love TV on the Radio), but when it comes to working out I need something mindless with a fun beat like lady gaga.

One of my favorites not noted in your list is The Gossip. Absolutely empowering live- so much fun.

Oh, this is a fun game! I love everyone you've mentioned and I'd add The XX, Architecture in Helsinki,The Blow, Metric, and Shiny Toy Guns. I listen to music all day at work, too, and I hope these tunes help with your creativity! :)

I really enjoy Bitter:Sweet. It's relaxing, but really inspiring. I'd definitely check them out if you haven't already.

Modest Mouse is the greatest band of all time! And because there is a little hipster in me I have to say that I fell in love with them in the 7th grade...waaaayyyyy before they were all over the radio.

With that said, can you make a trip to California so I can rip your iPod? I have a feeling that we have a lot of the same music but I would love to hear the bands that I don't already know about.

P.S. I hope this becomes an ongoing series, I just started making a mix tape of sorts on my blog, hopefully I will do it on a semi-regular basis.

Great list. Some of my faves are on here; Phoenix, Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Vampire Weekend. It's funny you say Sigur Ros will make you cry since their lyrics are Icelandic (and some made up language by the singer)- but I totally get that too!

Some old faves I have been really loving again lately are Band of Horses (funeral is just gorgeous) and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

The new Yeasayer has been on heavy rotation in my house for months, I love it!

I absolutely adore Nick Drake - He's one of my top 3 (along with the Beatles and Elliott Smith, of course).

Love!

love this post! i blogged about your amazing wedding invites today... you go girl!

Great picks! Especially for the warmer months.

I hum/sing Home to my son when he's unsettled. I love that song.

I'm loving this post! (I'm too a silent lurker). Love to hear about bands I may not be familiar with...please keep this up! :)

You might try (if you haven't already):

Spoon
Local Natives
The Promise Ring
Bon Iver

I'm loving everyone's picks! I've got a lot of your recommendations on my iTunes but some that I haven't checked out yet. xo!

Peter Bjorn and John were great opening for Depeche Mode at Red Rocks.

In constant roatation: Modest Mouse, David Bowie, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, Smiths/Morrissey, Joy Division/New Order, Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon, Galaxie 500, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Slayer...

Thats the standards for the last 20 years or longer.

Current obsessions: Cobalt, Chromeo, The Fashion, Scott Walker, Siouxsie and the Banshees, We Are Scientists

Embarrassing favorite: George Michael

Bon Iver is amazing! The album For Emma, Forever Ago. If you like it you have to see the lablogotheque video of For Emma filmed in Paris. I tear up everytime, it's so good. Music that can move you like that...no words for it. you can go to http://www.blogotheque.net/ and search it or just google bon iver take away show and it's on youtube :)There are a ton of other great videos on the site (Fleet Foxes- Sun Giant/ Blue Ridge Mountains and Arcade Fire-Neon Bible) to name a few.

Lately I've been listening to Caribou, The Radio Dept., Beach House, Toro Y Moi, Washed Out, Beach Fossils and Small Black. I prefer dreamy, lo-fi music at work. Keeps me working at a steady pace, and it isn't as distracting as, say, T.I. or Jay-Z, ha.

oooh, i need to bookmark this post (and it's comments) for when i'm on soulseek next!

black keys are huge for me and i love their new album, "brothers". kate nash is always cute. "my best friend is you" is her newest album.

i just discovered jack penate and love him. get's me moving when i'm dragging ;)

Wild Beasts* love love
Wolf Parade
Beach House
Late of the Pier
Noah and the Whale
Mystery Jets
The National
Tokyo Police Club
Caribou
Everything Everything

That should suffice. :)
