Bobby Pin Wars and Other Pet Peeves

One of Jeremy's biggest pet peeves (that I know of) is that I like to have bobby pins all over the house - on the edge of the sink, on top of the fireplace, tucked between cushions, on my nightstand... in case I need to pin a piece of hair back, at that very second, I will have a bobby pin just an arm's reach away. It makes perfect sense to me but it drives Jeremy crazy. He doesn't understand why I can't keep them neatly contained in a couple of strategically placed jars in the bedroom and bathroom. It also baffles his left-brained mind as to why I can't keep my keys in one place so that I don't have to run around like a crazy person looking for them every time I leave the house.

That kind of organization just isn't in my nature and I don't think it ever will be. And Jeremy is very much a place-for-everything-everything-in-its-place kind of guy. I try to be mindful of the bobby pin problem to keep Jeremy from quietly going insane, I really do - but I'm like an addict. I just can't stop.

What are the little things you do that drives your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend/roommate bonkers?

The hubs is crazy over the fact that I have to rearrange the decorative pieces on our tv stand. I constantly buy new lamps or frames every couple of months. But I always sell the old stuff at a yard sale, that makes up for it right?

I have the bobby pin problem, too. Finally, I bought a new pack of bobby pins that came in a little pouch, so I keep them in the pouch in my purse. That way I'll always know where they are!

My other addiction is burts bees. I always have 4 tubes in the house somewhere, one in arms reach, and a sixth in my purse. It's *that* bad.

I have the bobby pin ish too. I have a tiny mason jar (after i ate all teh pesto) that i use int he bathroom for such items. I also find them everywhere though...in the bed, on the floor, in the cushions, in the pocket in my purse. I just try to pick them up when I see them and get them back into the jar. I also think that I have this issue with chapstick. I have one in my nightstand, one in my bathroom, purse, car, and desk. You are not alone my friends!!

ahh, I do the SAME thing. The boyfriend has been throwing them away when he finds them anywhere other than the bathroom. And my stupid keys too. I drive a VW, and my key isnt on a key ring because it's bulky, and I'm all the time losing it.

I leave....everything....all over the house. It's something I'm trying to stop, but it's hard to change a quarter century (sounds longer and more dramatic than 25 years) worth of habit in a short period of time, and the boyfriend is not too pleased with that!

When I take my socks off, I don't always unball them. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the whole,"Your socks aren't getting washed/dried properly if you keep doing this." I always promise to stop but at almost 6 years of marriage, I guarantee a balled up sock is on the floor of our bedroom as we speak.

I have a water bottle problem (which I know, environment hater alert!). But I have them all over the house, half drank and always within arms reach. I have even caught him combining the bottles when he thinks I am not looking. It's a bad habit I have tried to cease with the aid of a Brita pitcher, but as long as he keeps buying bottled water I will continue to leave them EVERYWHERE!

You and Jeremy sound like Peter and I. He's the more organized one, and I used to (and still sometimes do) have to tear the whole house apart frantically to find my keys. I've gotten better at putting them in my purse, but even then. I would joke that my key-losing was one way I knew I was my dad's daughter.

Margie! I do that too! It makes him insane.

Colin and I are both complete slobs so it works out in the sense that we're never peeving each other off about leaving things untidy, it does NOT work out however in the sense that our home is fairly unsanitary most of the time. Last night he called me up out of bed to make me stand in the room and asked "Does somethign smell sort of, septic in here??"

Turns out it was the trash, which we're planning on taking out today. For real.

Jen - My bobby pin jar also holds 4 different tubes of burts bees!

Margie & Jason - ME TOO.

Vanessa - when it's not my keys it's my whole purse.

Ashley - Did you know that I originally spelled "Peeve" in this post as "Peave"? I blame it on you. Also, our trash stinks right now too - but tonight I'm going to blame it on you.

I too have a husband who suffers from bobby-pin-aphobia! He hates finding them everywhere - but sometimes having a good bobby pin within reach is a necessity. Admittedly sometimes it's out of sheer laziness that I just put one down wherever I am instead of moving it back to it's happy home in my purse or the bathroom. We struggle with this too - but I need to get better at putting them away!

The bobby pin war is one I can definitely relate to!! My husband always counts how many are in the washing machine after every load!! I also like to leave all the lights on when I'm home, while he is more mindful of the hydro bill. :)

I don't use bobby pins so much...but little hair clips. everywhere. Even worse is chapstick - No joke you can find at least 2 in every room of the house. I have this crazy fear that if it's not nearby my lips will get red and KILL all day. It's the worst feeling ever!

I also have a horrible habit of never putting away my straightener when I'm done with it. I unplug it and leave it on our tiny bathroom sink, so when he goes to wash his face he's confronted with a burning hot straightener just inches away. He says it only takes 10 seconds to put it under the sink, but I insist it's a pain to wind that cord every morning!

scott had a habit of emptying his pockets of loose change all over the house. i hated finding coins here + there, so instead of nagging, i bought a super cool silver bank for him. he immediately took to it! problem solved + i look like a sweet gifter, not a nagger ;)

Good lord, what is WRONG with you people! Why isn't anybody DISCOURAGING this behavior?

;)

I don't know if you noticed that new huge hook in our Master Bedroom post the other day or the COAT RACK, but a certain someone likes to undress and leave everything BAM right there on the floor. Or at the end of the bed.

Yes, that is the sound of my trying not to strangle him.

Kelly

I have the bobby pin problem but as my boyfirend and I don't live together, they're all over HIS house as well as mine.
What's sad is that he used to use them to pin back his hair when it was too long to play rugby!
Pfft. What a girl :) (apart from the angry-tackly-manly sport thing)

i'm glad to see someone else (or several someones else) have the same bobby pin problem i do. i find them in the washer and dryer from leaving them in pockets all the time. but when you need them and can't find them it's murder. i've used paperclips in a pinch but it's not the same.
my SO has the problem with the keys (or pretty much anything he touches). he never puts things in the same place, let alone general vicinity. he also opens cans of soda, takes a few drinks and then leaves them to sit around the house and get warm. i once went around and picked them all up and piled them precariously on his desk to make a point (i think there was at least a 12-pack). that didn't go over well or last for long. ah, well...he's a keeper anyway.

Hehe I lose bobby pins alllllllllllll the time. I swear when I move, im gonna find 3 million under furniture, mixed in with jewelry, in the bathroom.
Altho nowadays with less hair, I don't need them much.
Sorry Jeremy, This is completely normal woman behavior haha.

this is HILARIOUS. i told my guy friends just last month "what will drive my future husband crazy is my inability to keep bobby pins in one place. you could find them at any corner of this entire condo and i'd be happy with it".

on another note, my roommate and i leave shoes EVERYWHERE. probably because we have so many. we often have to have a shoe pick up party at night and take them all back to their homes, in our closets.

I feel sorry for Jeremy...I really do. I would lose my effing mind over those bobby pins! ha!

Chase likes to leave shoes everywhere...he takes them off and then doesn't put them away and before you know it he has 5 pairs of shoes in the living room, 2 in the office and 1 or 2 in the bedroom. Ahhh!!

I always say, "My husband will know me by my trail of hair elastics/ water glasses/ pens." Those are my ubiquitous items. (Poor thing...)

I am the same way but with nail files - my boyfriend HATES nail files. Like touching them makes him physically ill. He hates sand paper too so who knows. He will see one and it's like he sees a mouse or something. Forget asking him to hand it to me, he'd rather be stabbed to death.

My hair ends up everywhere as well - it's not so much something that drives him bonkers but him teasing me about it drives me bonkers! :)

I also tend to just leave half drank beers around - if it's friday night and I get out a beer and I start to watch TV but then feel the need to go to the computer I forget it and it goes bad... horrible I know. It gets worse if I'm being crafty - a cold beer will never outlast craft time.

Kelly - that is so odd about the nail file / sandpaper phobia!

I am bad about water glasses too. And leaving cabinet and closet doors open.

I do both of those things! the key thing drives me nuts. i hate always losing them! i try to leave them in the same place, but i always manage not to.

i leave my shoes everywhere. by the couch, under my desk at the foot of the stairs to the bedroom, at the top of the stairs to the basement. everywhere. drives him crazy, especially when he trips over the 4 inch heels in the middle of the hallway! whoops!

ahaha that's funny, mikey just bickered at me earlier today for leaving bobby pins eeeeverywhere! it's funny because i always always seem to run out of them (probably because they end up everywhere BUT my hair) as for my boyfriend though he leaves everything everywhere...so bobby pins ain't so bad if you ask me!
