Anatomy of an outfit: Denim, Leather and Lace

Denim, leather and lace just make sense to me. I love the way the pattern in the belt plays off the pattern in the lace - and the texture in the lace plays off that in the tattered jeans. I think most would define this as an unexpected mash up of clothing but to me they belong together.
And the shoes. I found these while I was shopping for wardrobe for a commercial I was working on. I was at Ross and saw these Eastlands in a size 9 - one size too big for me. I took a break from my job and desperately searched the racks (that looked like they had been through WWIII) for a size 8. And when I finally found them I clutched them to my chest and cried a little - okay, that might be a dramatic interpretation. But I did get butterflies in my stomach and $17 later I have my favorite pair of shoes for life.
Vest: Gap

These photos are great. I didn't know how you were going to top the "double you's" from the Anatomy of a High Waisted post... but you did. Plus I just love this outfit, probably one of the ones I would most likely copy (especially now that we're not in the office together every day) and have always been jealous of those shoes.
Those shoes were a staple for me in high school. I had a pair made by Bass shoes - they were popular in New England. I haven't seen a pair in like 10 years!
I LOVE the new look!
Oh my goodness... those shoes take me waaaay back. I think I wore those in Brownies or Girl Scouts... great find. Cute little outfit. xo.
Ditto, chacha--long live docksiders! Did you guys coil the laces, as well?
Love! I covet your shoes. :) Happy Friday!
I'm glad you guys like the shoes. I need someone to teach me how to coil the laces!
Love it! And it's easy to replicate. However, instead of dock shoes, I'm thinking I would like saddle shoes. I wore those all the time as a kid. lol
ok..off topic for sure..
but why did you quit your ashtanga practice?? just a curious question from a fellow ashtangi (not hard core though!!) <3
I love you stool and chalkboard wall!
My mom sells the quesadilla on her Etsy-I'll have to go back and link to it. It really is incredibly moist and delicious!
I can send you some if you like.
:)
Tracy - I quit practicing Ashtanga when I became a busy and broke college student. Classes conflicted with my full-time school and part-time work schedule. Then after I graduated I couldn't make it home from my full-time job early enough to hit the last class of the day.
Every once in a while I'll take a yoga class at the Y, but as someone who practices Ashtanga, I'm sure you can understand when I say it's just not the same. The transitions seem clunky and it's really nothing more than a stretching class.
I do miss Ashtanga though.
I am Right with you on other Yoga classes...
I actually had a great teacher in Marin for years and when I moved North I actually practice at home in my own Yoga room. I have a pretty strong and focused Ashtanga practice 4 days per week. Mix it up with some cardio/weights at the gym the other days.
Can you believe I have been to Mysore, India 5 times and Never once practiced at the shala with Sharath or Guruji (when he was alive)? I did meet them both...but I do other things in India when I am there.
Ashtanga definately is a beautiful gift of a practice.
Have you read the new book that was just released? "Guruji A Portrait of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois"?
I just finished it and it was SO good! If you read it, be prepared to want to re-establish your practice!
Love you, Love your blog!
Namaste,
Tracy
