Prepping for Everest: The Little Things

BookMoleskine
The Corrections won as the book to read during our two day long commute to the other side of the world. The Stand came in at a close second. And of course, I need a fresh moleskine for some good old fashioned journaling.

AmmoBag
My friend, Erin, who used to be an air force badass let me borrow her ammo bag which fits my camera perfectly. However, maybe I might sew a temporary Canadian or Swiss patch over the US stamp. I don't want anyone confusing me for a badass with ammo. Not that Canadians aren't badasses - but you know. Neutrality. Wars. Whatnot. Sidenote: people keep on asking me if I'm going to take a lot of pictures. The answer is yes. Tons.

Benchmade
This will be the first time I've ever traveled with a knife. Another sidenote - I had one woman at the gym ask me if I was going to take a pistol. Uhm, see my note above about not being a badass. Or crazy.

Everest is just moments away and I feel like time is running out to make sure we've got everything we need. When it comes to packing the big things (like down jackets, sleeping bags, and the single outfit I'll be wearing THE WHOLE TIME) I'm not worried. It's trying to gather all the little things we'll need. Things like rehydration powder (for the inevitable diarrhea), a pen, and most importantly my passport. Do you guys do that thing where you double-check your ID like 8 times on your way to the airport?

Here's our full packing list as of right now (it will all fit in 2 backpacks):

Just the fact that you are going at all makes you bad ass as far as Im concerned. (But im totally with you on the not bringing a pistol thing. What would you possibly need that for?)

haha! "Toiletries: Diva Cup"

that made my day.

and oh man. not only did i check my ID a million times, but for MONTHS leading up to my greece trip i had nightmares about forgetting my passport!

Mrs. L - Well, thank you! I know... people around here like their guns.

Shelly - The diva cup is awesome. I tried it out last month and I think it will fit the bill.

You made me get up and check to see if I had my license with me.

I'm super duper excited even more now.

The Corrections is awesome.

Hell yeaaaah Diva Cup! It will make you feel periodless! Can't wait to read about your adventures on the other side of the world.

im impressed, i think you qualify as badass!

about the passport, after so much international travel for work i carry mine with me all the time now (i have a big ass wallet where it fits). i still fear the day when i forget to check and end up at the airport without it, i know its only a matter of time.

The Canadian patch is the right idea, I had one when I went to Scotland. The others that were American were treated very different.

You are a badass chick simply for going on this trek! Love reading you blog daily. Wishing you both safe and happy travels.

Ahh...I'm so jealous. Hope that you guys have an AMAZING time!

What the heck. A PISTOL!?!? Um, yeah, because this is so 1889.

I can't believe the time is here! What day do you leave? And yes, I check my passport, my ticket, and my ID obsessive-compulsively from the moment I leave the house until I'm already on the airplane. I have this weird fear of the passport sliding out of my bag underneath the seat in front of me on the airplane and sliding to the back of the plane.

I am weird.

As a Canadian representative, we love you too Kathleen. It's a good thing you mentioned me, I was about to open a can off woop-ass. EH?
I'm excited for your trip, you guys are troopers. SUPER troopers. It's going to be a long trip and we'll all be thinking about you and eager (spelling?) to hear all about it!
are you packing the floral skirt? would be good for impromptu outdoor pooping in warmer weather.

that ammo bag is amazing...so is your packing list. it's so organized!

Have you heard of the Go Girl? It's a product so you can pee standing up. :) might be helpful? www.go-girl.com. You look super organized!!

make sure you don't pack that knife in your carry on luggage..or they'll be escorting your "bad ass" right outa' that airport, right quick! ;~D Can't wait to follow you on your journey!!

Do you have someone close by to take care of your kitties?

Hi Kathleen!

The other day at my work we had this amazing man come in and give a talk about his climbing adventures. I instantly thought of you and Jeremy and have included his website for you to have a look at. He was an incredebly friendly guy with 10 plus years of climbing experience, if you have any questions im sure he would be happy to help!

April Rose.

Ashley - I've never had much of a problem with squatting but I'll definitely have to check that out! I've also heard of other techniques (not equipment necessary) for peeing standing up.

Tracy - Yes. The knives, liquids over 3 oz. and a few other things are definitely going in the checked baggage.

Kevin - Yup! We've got a couple kitty-watchers / house sitters lined up to keep the kitties happy and the place secure while we're gone.

April Rose - VERY cool. I'm going to become obsessed with this site. Thanks for thinking of us! That's so sweet.

sooo cool that you're doing this!

& as someone packing up and heading overseas (india) to live for a year - i totally appreciate your packing list!
