House Exterior: Before / After

Remember when this blog used to be solely about renovating our historical home? No? That's because only 12 of you were reading at the time. I'd like to take this time to welcome my new readers - feel free to take a tour of our home here.

I would also like to show you a house project that was completed about 6 months ago - but I was so caught up in everything else that I forgot to share. After a pretty serious hail storm we got a new roof and painted all of the trim. What used to be green and cream is now all inky black.

Photo taken in Fall 2010, after everything had mostly died.

At first I was shocked and terrified I had made the wrong decision. It was just such a bold change. But now I'm really happy with the update - I feel like our house looks more refined. If only we had the funds to replace all the metal stormer windows too. Oh and you'll have to forgive our awful landscaping - I'm going to tackle that situation in Spring/Summer 2011.

i really like the black trim! i would love to do this to our house, except that all of the metal storm windows are dark brown. and i don't think we'll be able to replace those anytime soon.

I've been reading your blog for a while now, but I just had to comment to say that the black trim looks amazing!

I LOVE the black. Good choice. {I started reading shortly after the renovations, but a couple of weeks ago I blog-stalked and looked back at most of your renovation posts... :)}

I love your house!

it looks awesome! want to come and design my house for me? ;)

wow, what a difference! love it. good choice. our house used to be blue with white trim outside. it's now deep browns with charcoal trim. made soooo much difference.

merry christmas to you and jeremy! pam

Making a bold color choice can be a cause for butterflies... At least it was for me when we chose to paint our white MCM home a very dark gray. And then when you see the stir it causes for looking so artistic and elegant, the little butterflies just go away. Your new trim color rocks! (And thanks for sharing the bedroom wall color btw, I kept meaning to say thanks, but then I hadn't... So thanks!) You might think you had taken a few art/ design classes or something :)

I love it!!! I can't wait to do the exterior of my house...it's rough around the edges right now. But, inside's first. Your house is gorgeous!

LOVE! So classy.
Much improved, I'd say!

Wow! How cool!

If you are ever after a nice little getaway to Australia, I am happy to do a house swap. It's near the ocean, with cows roaming the back, friendly neighbors and a cute stone wall fence.

RipeDesign - Sold! No really, I would totally be down to do a house swap.

I love your house and the black looks fabulous!

Stopping by from Rambling Renovators... love your house! So glad you linked up to the house tour- I'm loving your style!! :) So glad to have found your blog.

Michelle - Welcome! Thanks for saying hi. :)

I just discovered your blog & I've been going back further & further to see all of it. You have a great blog & a beautiful home (I swear I love anything in brick & anything that has a curve in the roof line).
I loved the post about being or becoming a landlord. I just bought my first apartment last year & I'd like to eventually like to by an investment property... unfortunately I live in a city that consistantly has ridiculously high housing prices.
