Alt - The Summer Camp Experience

I have to admit - I went into Alt Summit almost expecting to regress to my uncomfortable middle school self. I had this fear that I would be the equivalent of the awkward kid eating alone in the cafeteria. But instead I got the summer camp experience I never had - chock full of making a dozen new best friends forever, lots of hugs, a little bit of gossip, wine and potato chips, unexpected periods, and weepy goodbyes. I left inspired (and slightly overwhelmed) - not necessarily by the actual sessions (though, those were great) but by all the incredibly talented people I met. Real deal folks who think big and aren't afraid to take on the world.

ha! I know who those red-laced boots belong to!

I swear, you and Cole are two of the most (effortlessly) stylish women!

Is it weird that I recognized Cole's shoes from Pacimg the Panic Room? Haha :)

Jealous!
Sounds like a dream.

SO FUN. you are a big deal.

Couldn't have put together a better photo story! I have that pic of you and The Jealous Curator on my camera. Adore!

It was too fun. I'm glad you were like the second person I met. That turned out to be pretty badass.

It was too fun! So glad you were like that second person I met. That turned out pretty well.

These photos are fantastic. Truly. And I know how you feel -- sometimes I worry that I'll revert into that shy quiet 6th grader with the really bad perm that I once was. The only thing that made me sad is that I didn't have more time to talk to people. It was a whirlwind of awesomeness.

Jaime - YOU'RE the big deal. But actually.

Jason - You should've been there. I tried all I could to convince you.

Amy - I published both of those comments but I thought the badass one was better - should you choose to remove one of them. ;)

Brandi - It was so rad meeting you! Thank you for the email / book recommendations.

I loved your tweets from ALT. Sounded like the best kind of time + these pictures prove it! Great shots.

loved meeting you at alt! you didn't seem like an uncomfortable middle school girl at all. super friendly. :) thanks for hanging out with me on thursday!!

I miss you. Do you want to move in? Jeremy can come too.

Ps
Get rid of that captcha thing.

Cole - I'm packing my bags. I almost called you about three times yesterday about the most random things - but I decided I'd save it for an email. I'm off to slay Captcha now.

Spotted: Your excellent hair in one of Maggie Mason's Alt photos. ;) http://mightygirl.com/2011/01/27/alt-style-shiny-shiny/#comments

Wasn't Alt. lovely! I am only sad that I didn't meet so many people, like you. But at least there is getting to know new blogs, and the hope of returning next year. :)

it's funny because I thought it was just a conference where all the cool kids would be and they wouldn't let me sit at their table--good for you to face your fears and have an amazing time! maybe next year.
