Alt.

Tomorrow I will be heading to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend the Altitude Design Summit. When I try to explain to real life friends and family that I'm going to a blog conference they get confused. I mean - they get it that I have this blog but what is there about blogging that warrants an entire conference? I get questions like: Will we all be on our laptops blogging in a big room together? The truth is... I'm not entirely sure what to expect. I'm going to remain optimistic and open.
I'm looking forward to heading out to SLC tomorrow but first I have so much to do... like:
• Learn real names (for example, I don't want to be squealing "JEALOUS CURATOOOOORRRRR!!!" when I meet Danielle)
• Laundry.
• Pack for cold weather but maintain style - this is tricky.
• Paint my nails - does anyone else have to block off hours of their day to do this? Or is it just me?
• Research beginner tips for skiing. I might attempt it for the first time ever on Saturday.
Holler at me if you're going to Alt tomorrow!

I have been speaking Oprah for a few weeks now especially since Barney on How I Met Your Mother did just recently. Still makes me laugh.
"Margieeeeeee's making spaghettttttiii!" was heard a lot last night. :)
Have fun at Alt, Kattthleeeeen!
Margie - Do you watch 30 Rock? The episode where Liz Lemon meets Oprah? I'm always thinking in my head "Lizzz Lemmmooonnnnnnn!" Haha!
OMG, that episode was awesome! Poor Liz.
It is amazing hearing about all the cool kids coming to my city for a conference.
Go skiing. Try and rent equipment in town, cheaper than at the mountain. REI is a good bet, email me if you want any other SLC info.
i hope it's an awesome trip for you! :) and yes, i have to schedule lots of time to paint my nails, which is why i hardly ever do it.
For some reason the image of you skiing is hilarious to me. You HAVE to give us all the details if this happens. Going to miss your cooking tonight! Be safe!
Have fun at the blog conference! Salt Lake looks beautiful in the above photo.
I wanted to let you know lately, I've been getting a gel manicure. It lasts 4-6 weeks and is dry instantly. They basically cure your nails under a blue led light for a couple of minutes. Its amazing and changed my life. I can cook, clean, scrub things, use harsh cleaning chemicals and they don't get damaged! Ahhhmazing!
As a professional dresser for shitty cold weather... [in my own mind] my advice is to bring lots of layers. You will be warm and you will also have lots of options when you change 50 times before leaving your hotel room. Take lots of pictures and have fun!!! oh and can't wait to hear about skiing... DO ITTTTTT!!! just do the snowplow, it's easy ;)(p.s. did u get your hair did yet?)
hip hip for SLC!
I suggest trying a Cafe Rio salad (veggie style) w/creamy cilantro lime dressing. It's off the hook! And we've had a ton of snow this year- so skiing should be awesome! good luck!
JEALOUS.
Wish I could meet you all.
Oh, so jealous that you're going to Alt. You'll have so much fun. Did you make up any business cards to take with you?
As for the skiing thing, I found it easier to snowboard than ski. I think it had to do with dealing with one out of control board vs two skiis going in opposite directions. You must take pics!
I live in Denver, CO so feel like I can offer some authoritative advice on dressing for cold weather and skiing.
Regarding the former: layers are the key. You'll be cold outside but probably warm enough indoors so it's nice to be able to take things off/add things on. Keeping your neck warm does wonders (a.k.a. scarves are your best friend), even indoors. Stylish boots are a staple. A stylish coat is a must (but if you don't have one and must revert to a ski-type jacket, that is totally acceptable and even beloved in places like SLC and Denver).
Regarding the latter, if you can afford it/are up for it, I HIGHLY recommend taking a lesson. If you're not the lesson type of gal, stay on green runs but you want something with a little bit of slope (catwalks are not fun, it's like cross country skiing but without being able to lift your heel). Dress in layers (notice a theme here?), break for lunch, and maybe only do a half day (lift tickets are cheaper and you won't get as tired). #1 rule - don't go all the way to the top of the mountain. Stay close to the bottom and do shorter runs. Edited #1 rule - HAVE FUN!
Is this the longest comment you've ever received? Eek, sorry!
Green Eggs - Boots: check. Scarves: check. Layers/Jackets: check. Don't go to the top of the Mountain: I can't make any promises. ;)
Thanks!
Unless you are 10 years old and don't feel pain, or have 3 days where you have nothing to do but bitch and complain and nurse a bummed ass, knees, elbows and basically every muscle in your body, I would stick to skiing rather than snowboarding.
I've taught (or tried my best to teach) a few people how to snowboard and for the first few times they hate it and hate me and hate anything that requires them to move afterwards. Stick with skis and pizza or french fries and you should do great! It's hard not to have an amazing time on Utah's mountains!
ohhh, I'm with Green eggs on the lesson ^_^ helped me... when I was 6, hahaha!
And about the nail polish, I too take tons of time, and ,it has gotten worst since I has my son
(cannot do it when he is awake!)
Have a good time at the ALT Summit! Bring back lots of pics for us!
Awe, so fun!
I'm going to BlogHer'11 this summer & I'm STOKED!!
I'm not sure if you saw this on Black Eiffel today but thought you would be interested since you are going to SLC.

I so hope you have a wonderful time in Utah. I'm sure I'm sure I'm partial because it is home, but I love it here. Take adavntage of the snow and the mountains, you will not be disappointed - maybe just sore.
I LIVE in SLC and I can't make it. BOOO! I hope you have a blast.
"Paint my nails - does anyone else have to block off hours of their day to do this? Or is it just me?"
I have to! I thought it was just me.
