Always a Bridesmaid...

I was really honored and excited when my friend Hallie asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. Having been married twice myself the running joke was Kathleen, always a bride... So, I was genuinely looking forward to joining the ranks of bridesmaid and wearing matching taffeta dresses with huge poofy sleeves. I felt as if I was going through a rite of passage. And then when my main girl Liz was asked to be a bridesmaid too we knew Hallie was in for it.

So, with that, here are some things you should know about me should you ever ask me to be your bridesmaid:
Hallie and Chase 0031

1. I will say inappropriate and vulgar things at all the right times.
2. And I will make ugly faces. But I will make pretty faces too.
3. With me, comes my hair.

4. I will never smile with my teeth. It makes me look frightened.
5. My awesome rack might steal the show. I apologize in advance.
6. A camera flash will make me look like a ghost.
7. While I love the whole matching dress cliche it also freaks me out a little bit. I may try to wear really crazy shoes but you can probably talk me out of it.

8. I will be the friend that tells you you can back out when you're getting cold feet. Everyone helps you plan your wedding but nobody helps you plan a divorce.
9. But I will also believe in true love and happily ever after with my whole heart as I'm standing next to you.
10. I won't get sloppy drunk at your reception.
11. But I will totally act like it if that's what you're into.

Pretty!

And I was starting to wonder if you had teeth. Seriously. I'm glad you cleared that up.

Kelly

Thanks for being the one of the best bridesmaids ever. I am so happy you stood up there with me, will never forget that. And thank you SO much for not wearing those crazy ass shoes...but I look forward to seeing you rock those outside of my wedding. I love you!!

I look like I'm growling, or hissing, when I smile with my teeth. They are also small. So, I try to do like Tyra and smile with my eyes. :)

Congrats to Hallie and Chase!

Margie - Yes! Smile with your eyes! My teeth are baby small. I still have little ridges in them and everything.

Kathleen - it's ALL about the "smize," which you've got down to an art. (See: third photo)

I love the bridesmaid's dresses. I've only been a bridesmaid once, and our dresses were horrifying (and cost $150, ugh). Great post! Congrats to the lovely bride & groom! xo.

I am in love with that dress. If I ever find someone to marry me I might buy it. If I hit 40, I might buy it anyway. Ya know, to garden and stuff in.

You're funny!
Senior prom - Hahahahaha!

My absolute favorite:

8. I will be the friend that tells you you can back out when you're getting cold feet. Everyone helps you plan your wedding but nobody helps you plan a divorce.

This is an excellent trait for a bridesmaid to have. I mean that. You need someone who can be your voice of reason if you're really doubting yourself, so you don't get caught up in the white and the roses and the presents.

And. Btw. I love your crazy hair!

Hahaha great post!
and was the reception at Red?

That wedding looks like such a good time! Your group of friends looks awfully fun to. I loved the bit about your friend Liz sucking face. Man, now I'm wedding hungry!

I have never been a bridesmaid, which is a real shame because I have always loved wearing clothes that match my friends, and there are so few opportunities for that in adult life.

Chelsey - I was just thinking that we need to go grab some dinner sometime. I'd be happy to go matchy-matchy with you. ;)

Hilarious! I have been a bridesmaid six times, and have six ugly dresses to prove it. I vowed to not force my bridesmaids to wear ugly dresses, but neglected to take into consideration the fact that they were almost all large breasted. A fact that I, being super flat, never thought about. Let's just say there was a lot of duct tape involved in keeping their jumblies in their dresses.

What, were you a child bride or something??

Everybody looks beautiful.

:) I've been married twice now too. Maybe we're blogging soulmates. ;)

And I'm so sad I didn't get to shoot this wedding, because my flash would not make you look like a ghost. ;)

Let's do! If anything in my closet matches anything in your uber-cool closet, that will be reason to celebrate!

Jason - I was a fresh 21 and in love with a sweet bearded man with an Elvis Costello tattoo. Who knew it wouldn't last forever.

Becka - I like to call it my starter marriage. It taught me things that have made me better equipped for the second time around.

Aw, in defense of the photographer (who I love and use all the time) I think it was just that one photo and my skin is REALLY white. I blame myself. ;)

Chelsey - It's ON. I will be in touch.

Yes, Jason, Kathleen was a child bride that would have made Jerry Lee Lewis proud.

I love your post Kathleen.

hahahaha you're funny, girl!

and now i totally want you to be a bridesmaid at my (unplanned) wedding :)

i was a bridesmaid once. the dress was damn near the colour of my flesh and a tight stretchy cotton. there was no choice but to go commando. it worked out well because i got drunk in the limo on the way to have photos taken, had to pee at the photo site, and couldn't find a bathroom. it is pretty easy to hike up a dress and pee in a botanical garden when you're drunk and commando.

Zaida - Yes - the ceremony was at the capital and the reception was at Red Prime. So fun and gorgeous!

Miss Teacups - I accept! ;)

t and j - That's hilarious! I've heard a few people complain since about flesh-colored dresses but I LOVE the naked look - I'm not even being sarcastic.
