Boots I have Known
Here it is. The boot post. Can I tell you guys that this post is already making me emotional? I love my boots like a crazy hoarder cat lady loves her piles of newspapers. So without further ado...
The Frye's. I first spotted these over 3 years ago and fell in love. I needed them but they were way too expensive - so I filed them away as an unrealistic fantasy. Months later Jeremy and I started dating. A few months after that it was my birthday - Jeremy got me the boots. And you guys - I cried when I opened them. They've become my sole mates. If there was a fire I'd grab these boots and the collage art in my dining room - hopefully Jeremy is grabbing the cats.
The Reports. These are the oldest pair of boots I have. I remember falling in love with them after spotting them in a Delia's catalog - but again $70ish dollars was way too much to spend on boots. So I circled them with a Sharpie and gave the catalog as a Christmas gift suggestion. I didn't cry when I opened them but I was really excited to have such a badass pair of boots. They're not something I'd buy for myself now, of course, but I still love them.
The Other Frye's. Once I knew what it was to have really quality boots - the kind that will last forever - I could never go back. So when I wanted a good pair of motorcycle (or Vespa) boots I settled on these Frye Engineer boots (also a Christmas gift from Jeremy). I also wear these to events like Bachelorette parties. Just in case I need to kick some ass.
The Blowfish Boots. I bought these for myself about a year and a half ago and never quite bonded with them like I have my other boots. Maybe I need to give them a couple more years to make themselves at home in my closet.
The Seychelle's. I love these boots - I want to say they're 6 or 7 years old but I can't be sure. My best gal pal Liz does too - she calls them her sole mates and can't stop staring at my feet with envy and lust when I wear them. But (and here is where I start getting emotional) ... I think it's time to retire these boots for good. The weather is warming up and just this season they've been in the boot repair shop twice. But maybe I'll keep them in my closet forever - just so they know how much they were loved.
And those are my boots.

OH man, I have to comment on a post entirely about boot love. (I've lurked through the Mt. Everest trip and first discovered your blog searching for outfit blogs) I've always thought my obsession with boots stemmed from growing up in Alaska (this explains the number of coats/jackets I own as well:). It's comforting to know somebody else out there is developing and maintaining their sole relationships.
I have been desperately haunting ebay to score some discontinued. Frye's. Never underestimate the power of a good boot.
Oh my. I feel the same way about my jackets. I love them all, my Run-DMC look-a-like, my fleecey one, the itchy one, the one with the awesome pockets, the faux blazer and my keep in the car. Beware my ashy elbows!

Wait, you only own 5 pairs of boots??? Ok I definitely feel like the boot hoarder here. In just moccasins alone, I own... 4 or 5. I LOVE The Other Frye's. They are frakin gorgeous. I've been lusting over fryes for a while and then Matt went and bought himself a pair off ebay and he doesnt even like them and they are sitting in the box in the closet. it makes me so mad, he should have bought ME 200$ boots instead, id wear them even if it turned out i hated them. ok im exagerating a lot here but you get my point... wasted fryes. it should be a punishable crime. You're really good with keeping pieces for years and years, I think the oldest boots I own are only like 2 or 3 years old.
Em - Okay, there is one pair of boots I didn't include in this post. Only because I never ever wear them - which made me decide it's finally time to dump them in the Goodwill bag.
I always have boot envy. I have giant calves and can't wear anything over the ankle. This post made me happy/sad. Having large calves has made me a better athlete but I can't wear beautiful, beautiful boots. When you next wear a pair- think of me!
I've really, really, really been wanting to buy myself a pair of Fryes, but the price has stopped me so far.
Did you buy yours locally or online? I've only seen one pair of Fryes in an Oklahoma store. Otherwise...only online. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places!
Melissa - Yes, both pairs of my Frye's were bought online. I saw some Frye cowboy boots at Ross a few months ago! They were all slightly too large for me.
Like, Gretchen, I do not have boot-friendly calves. I always notice EVERYONE's boots because I rarely find ones that will fit me {so rare that I only own one pair}. Sigh.
You have great boot taste. I lurve those first Frye's!!
Thank you! This makes me want to save up for some Frye's (not like daydream save, but really save).
Now if you could kindly tell me what sandals to buy this spring. I'm overwhelmed.
OK..so this is pretty freaky..
I was lying in bed this morning and all of a sudden I had this "flash" about your blog (i read it each day)
and the flash was about BOOTS!!! Can you believe that?! Weird!
haha! i love this post! i wish you didn't have to retire the last pair of boots though. they're gorgeous. all of them are and so are their portraits.
Tracy - I'm flattered that your psychic powers were used on my blog! That is so crazy! Did you see any of these boots in particular?
LOL!! No, guess I'm not THAT good! ;~D
I also share Liz's love for the Seychelle boots. They are perfection. Don't you wish you could clone clothing items?
i. love. boots. i come from a long line of shoe lovers. actually today to school i wore boots my grandmother left me and i think they helped on my lab practical haha. leave the boots in your closet. while today's fashion won't be as easily recognizable in the future, let your someday daughter put the final nails in the boots' coffin the way my mom let me. :)
I'm a boot junkie too. I have at least seven pairs and have a hard time not adding to my collection every time I run across another pair of beauties! Don't they just make an outfit?
i am feeling this. I am feeling the black boots especially. you know it's funny because i always feel like i'm a "heels" gal but i never feel entirely comfortable in them. i always feel slightly awkward and kind of clompy (is that a word?). and that doesn't stop me from wearing them because i feel sexy in them but boots! oh boots! I always feel comfortable in boots, and confident too. and it's perfect for me because i wear dresses a lot, and even here in victoria you can wear ballet flats all year round! and really, id choose boots over ...what are my other options here - running shoes? no, im no Melanie Griffith "Workig Girl."
I have boot obsession too. I am drooling over both your Frye's and especially the Seychelle pair. Unfortunately, I have some serious calves that don't allow me to where many high boots...so when I do find a pair that my jumbo calves can squeeze into fairly comfortably, it's so difficult to let them go for Spring! I feel your pain.
