An Organized Kitchen

I'm not the cleanest person in the whole world but sometimes when I'm feeling stuck or especially anxious I like to roll up my sleeves and dive into some deep cleaning. The other afternoon I was experiencing a creative block and at the same time noticed that the contents of our cabinets were a total mess. We had bulk bags, partially filled with random grains, nuts and dried fruits scattered amongst our shelves.

So, I got to work. I took an hour of my afternoon to organize and clean. It cleared my mind and after I was done I went back to my computer and knocked out a new design. It was a win-win afternoon.

P.S. Thanks for all your comments and emails on yesterday's post. I just want to clarify that I am so grateful for all the work and clients that I have - as well as the amazing support system I've got in Jeremy, my blog readers, family and friends. You guys are the best. xo!

Just seeing that oven made me want pizza all over again.

we have these same jars in our cabinets! crazy. i had to get them when i realized there was quinoa and farro spilled all over kingdom come.

looks good!

I'll make pizza for you any day of the week! Or better yet - let's go climbing again (soon) and hit up the Wedge.

I absolutely love everything about your kitchen. I went dark with my kitchen this time but will go light next time. And the organization . . . well, let's just say you and I are the same kind of people. I organize when things get tough, I get stressed or I just need to think. I hope you have a great weekend!

I have a huge boner right now.

Just sayin'.

I love the cabinets! Jars are the best :D

I LOVE putting all my rice and beans and things in jars. Sometimes I forget which rice needs to be cooked 45 mins and which needs to be cooked 10 but over/undercooked rice is a small price to pay for cute jars, right? fashion over function is my motto! (what's a motto? nothing, what's a motto you? I can't say motto without quoting that in my head)
and your kitchen is so freakin cute. one day ill have a house with my dream kitchen. ill probably want to redesign it daily tho.(i have issues)

I love your kitchen. I wouldn't ever want to stop cooking if mine was like it. Gotta love the simplicity and organization!

Kathleen - I'm curious where you bought your glass jars (hopefully somewhere in OKC), I love them! And need them!

Kendra - Believe it or not - I got them at Walmart! They're $2 - $6 each depending on size.

I've never seen your kitchen! How bright and clean and lovely!

looks great!!

Oh my goodness- it looks so good! Your kitchen is adorable!!

i basically can't even work on my paper crafts unless my house is clean. i mean i can...but when i want to feel like i'm starting fresh, i have to spend two hours cleaning up alllll the clutter in my apartment. it can be an exhausting process - it was the same for when i used to have to write essays too.

i'm sort of new to your blog kathleen, and i have to tell you that i've begun reading all your back entries on my bloglovin iphone app when i am bored! (that's a compliment, i rarely go backwards in blogs)

Patience,
What a compliment! I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

Love the organizing. I have been wanting to re-organize our food cabinet as well and have been eyeing this exact style of jar! Seeing it here makes me want to start the process today!

ooh i like this a lot! so clean & organized!

Way to make a girl feel bad about her messy cabinets!!! After seeing this post now I have no choice but to clean. When I'm sittin' back relaxing in a clean place I'll have you to thank...so thanks!

@Em, you can cut out the little instruction part about how long to cook the rice and tape it to the very bottom of the jar, so it is there to remind you. :)

Kathleen, I love this jar look you have going on. So pretty! I have been doing the same thing, and so prefer the look to all the ugly bags of lentils and whatnot that used to clutter our cabinets. :)

Great tip Adventures! I find that most grains cook with 2 part water to 1 part grain. I just let it go until all the water has been cooked off...

There's really nothing like an organized kitchen -- I find it oddly intoxicating. And I use the same containers to organize all my dry products. Sometimes they're a pain to open but they're lovely.

your kitchen is beautiful!!!

i love the jars that the dried goods are stored in. i'm slowly, bit by bit, going through the process of moving all the dried goods in my kitchen to clear plastic containers

still looking for a good airtight opaque container for coffee beans though

any suggestions?

Linda - we have a simple square glass airtight container for our coffee beans. We found it at target for $10.

"Organization gives me peace and allows my creative juices to flow. Sounds like it works for you that way also! Love your kitchen, it is so organized & pretty!"

I would love to know where you buy your bulk grains, seeds, and dried fruits!!

Karla - we actually do all of our grocery at native roots in Norman. It's a really great store if you're ever in that area.

I love how you put everything in jars.

Cole - I know you do.

this post makes me love jars even more! plus, it was fun to try to figure out what was in the jars in your picture :)

Such a beautiful kitchen! I dream of a white kitchen.. with concrete countertops. I would be in heaven!

I now have kitchen envy.

Oh my gosh - this is organization porn. Purdy! You would throw up if you saw my pantry. It looks like there was supermarket shelf after a zombie attack.

So pretty. I'm afraid to tackle the kitchen cabinets. The closet too.

I just LOVE that glass on your cabinets -- Your kitchen is so perfect!

I am looking for some jars JUST like this! Where did you get yours?

I love love love them!

Erin - they're from Wal-Mart!
