Pretty from the Lizrary

As always, if you are new around here meet Liz. Liz and I first met when she interned at the ad agency I was art directing at - she was later hired as a designer and we've been friends ever since. When she bought a home around the corner from me we shared lots of bottles of wine and good laughs. And when she decided to move across the country to art direct on the East coast I decided to leave my job and art direct with a view of my back yard.

I always look forward to Liz's Flickr updates. Her photos are always a reminder that we have the luxury of art directing the world around us. That there is a ton of pretty in the details. And you guys - she takes all of these snaps on a tiny Canon Powershot point and shoot. So any time I'm tempted to buy a Canon D7 (and trust me, I'm tempted) I just need to dig through Liz's Flickr archives and remind myself that it's not the tools that make the magic.

when i first read the title, i was sure that it said "pretty from the library" - i was a bit confused!

lovely shots! it's neat to see what people can do with point & shoots - they've sure come a long way!

what camera are you using right now?

Janis - I'm currently using a Canon G10. I highly recommend it! However, my lens is all scratched - I'm hoping to get a new G12 in the near future.

I love looking at Liz's pictures. (and of course her hair... I just love short haired girls, I can't get enough) Why doesn't she have a blog so I can stalk her too?? :)

Liz is kind of like a cat - she won't make herself completely accessible with a blog. That and if she had a blog it would give me less content for mine. ;)

But you should follow her on Flickr.

oh these pics are awesome! great reminder you don't (necessarily) need a fancy camera :) (though i still want to upgrade my slr)

What great pics - I am planning to follow her now to remind myself just what can be done with a point and shoot! She's talented!

you use her photos on your blog, and i just make her TAKE photos for mine when we're out. although, she's been such a good influence on my photograph taking. when i take a pic now, i think to myself, "what would liz do?"

and that saint head? i've got a matching one. and i lurv it.

Naurnie / Lauren - Yeah. Don't take it for granted. I miss the days when I could call Liz and ask her to bake me a cookie. Or to come over and tell me to throw my stuff away. ::sigh::

wow - great pics! as always!
does she take everything on macro setting so that she gets a short depth of field? what are her tricks?

Melanie - The composition and art direction is 100% talent - but don't forget that Liz is a designer who is quite handy with Photoshop. So the results you see here may not always be directly from the camera. ;)

Canon 7D. Nikon puts the letters first. ;) Also, Hold out for a 5DmkII. Or you can pick up a used older 5D for pretty cheap. It's a great camera.

Hey Becka - Silly typo. Even for not being a photographer I've worked on art directing lots of video projects utilizing the 5D. Anyhow, it's still too much camera for me, probably. I like my little G10 (see! letter first!)
