Identity: Design Crush

DesignCrushA

Kelly of Design Crush is one of the Original Gangstas (oh yes, I did) when it comes to curator blogs. Kelly has an eye for all things pretty, unique, interesting and even tasty. She also happens to live in the same city as me. After sharing too many friends and interests in common we decided to meet up for drinks. And then again for cupcakes. And then Kelly told me that I needed to design a logo for her - I was more than happy to oblige.

There are usually two components to a logo - the symbol or graphic and the word mark. Long term goals are important when designing a logo - do you eventually want to brand yourself with the symbol alone (think Nike and Target)? Or do you always want your name to be a part of the brand (think Coca-Cola and FedEx)? As a lover of typography, I am a huge fan of letting the word mark shine. I love to combine and refine typography in a way that becomes a piece of art on it's own.

DCProcess

Kelly's only direction for her Design Crush logo was that she wanted it to be minimal and clean. To play on the concept of "design" and "crush" but nothing too over-the-top. It was important that the logo not distract from the content of her blog. So I chose a modern and architectural typeface for "design" and something a little more flirty for "crush". I played with the scale, composition and detailing until it was just right - and like that, a new logo was born.

Brava! I have admired that logo since Kelly redesigned her blog. It's really lovely.

Beautiful job, Kathleen! You might have to do mine next. But I need to pay you what you're worth, so I'll be saving up a lot of money.

Anytime, Brandi! I'd love to help you out!

i'm still madly in love with it. xo

I *love* the Design Crush logo but I also love those other fonts. Especially the ones with the different weights... any chance you'd want to share what the typefaces are?

I didn't know you were responsible for this. I love it!!! Well done girl!
