Anatomy of an Outfit: Girly Apocalypse

You all might already be familiar with my post-apocalyptic fashion sense. Basically, whenever I buy a new article of clothing I ask myself "Will this outfit survive the post-apocalypse?" Not because I actually believe the apocalypse is upon us but it just makes shopping easier and I usually come out looking like a badass. So when Shabby Apple offered to send me an outfit I was overwhelmed by my options. They've got lots of women's dresses made for sophisticated jet setters and girly girls - so I perused the site for the dress I felt would best survive the post-apocalypse.

The dress I picked is tough enough for jumping on the back of a horse with some sort of sawed off shot-gun, but it's girly enough that I could use my feminine wiles to barter for some fresh water in some desolate and dusty ghost town taken over by calloused criminals. The only problem is that it wrinkles easily - not great for the post-apocalypse.

Dress: San Gabriel c/o Shabby Apple
Boots: Fiorentini & Baker

Ha! That's the best decision making process ever. And badass indeed, that's a great outfit, hey :)

Ahaha! I love your thought process. I use "will I look awesome wearing this as I copy some paperwork stuffs or, as I sit in front of a computer and look busy?"

I'm an (x)hairdresser w/similar curls to yours...I'm curious what's in 'em for this photo and if you ever have problems w/frizz after not washing it for a few days? And that dress is super cute!

Hi Jessi - I currently go about 7 days without washing my hair - but to get my curls looking like this I have to wet my hair everyday and then put a dab of Redken Curl Bounce Ringlet 07 curl lotion in my hair (while wet). I let it air dry completely and then use a diffuser on a hair dryer to make it big and get the crunch out. I embrace the frizz when it happens - it's just a natural part of being a curly girl.

If it were the end of the world, I would be that girl in the frilly dress and heels trying desperately to jump on your horse. (I'd also be carrying a Nerf gun and bottled spring water.) Not for you to save my life, but I'd want to swap dresses.

I totally want to know how to get on the Shabby Apple bandwagon and get a free dress. This one looks fantastic on you! You're definitely ready for any apocalypse -- or just a picnic too.

Oh it love it! And your description of how to best use it in a post-apocalyptic environment- spot on!

I loved Mila Kunis' outfits in "Book of Eli" and think you could definitely have styled that.

LOVE this dress on you! You look like a bad-ass general with those brass buttons. :) P.S. Pale blue LOVES your complexion.

(your description is perfect!)

ohhh, how i love how you always walk the pretty slash tough tightrope. it makes me want to kiss you. ruffles and beat up boots and brass buttons. yum. yum yum yum.

and i love the neck ruffle, but somehow i want it to be a v-neck, too? i dunno.

Kendi - I'll trade you dresses but I'm keeping the boots.

Kat - That's the ultimate compliment. I would KILL to be a stylist on a post-apocalyptic flick. Maybe one of these days. :)

Kelly - The cool thing is you can unbutton the top a little to make an asymmetrical v-neck. P.S. I want to kiss you too. Because you're a pretty badass too.

I'm so glad there's a coupon code! I've had my eye on one of their dresses for so long and I get my paycheck tomorrow! cha-ching!

Love how the boots give the dress a very Firefly vibe (I mean that as a gigantic compliment). Very post-apocalyptic wild west. I've had my eye on a few of their dresses for a long time- that coupon code might push me over the edge...

Amanda - YES! Exactly! Compliment taken - I LOVE Firefly.

You look adorable, but I've always been so disappointed with my Shabby Apple purchases. The red zipper sewn on the outside of a yellow dress was the tipping point for me.

I can only imagine how interesting your closet will be in retrospect 10 years from now. Adore the fluttery sleeve AND the Fiorentini & Baker boots. Do you know how long I tried to get that exact pair in the Fall and everyone was sold out! xo

oh no! i was just looking at shabby apple earlier today but closed it out and thought "NO! i'll be good and keep my money"

now my decision has been made much more difficult. but i am Really happy to see this dress on a real person because i like it so much!

I like to think of the apocalypse a lot and sometimes when I go shopping I think of you and your post-apocalyptic style.

You are hilarious. LOL
