Anatomy of an Outfit: Boots and A Skirt Up to There

AnatomySummerBoots

WEEKEND HIGHS:
• Watching the Kings of Leon documentary Talahina Sky.
• Sleeping in followed by a slow morning and french pressed coffee.
• Making out with this guy.
• Rice crispy treats (homemade by my mom)
• Grocery shopping (I really do love stocking my fridge and cabinets for the week)

WEEKEND LOWS:
• The unrelenting heat. The upside: I am really going to appreciate Fall this year.
• Finding out that the big tree in our front yard is going to have to be completely removed. The upside: We won't run the risk of more branches falling on our home. And we're going to get a new tree for our yard to replace it. Maybe this will finally be the push we need to landscape.
• Having a slight melt down about my hair. It's just not curling like it used to. The upside: At least I have hair? The dramatic girl in me is having a hard time finding an upside.

What were your weekend highs? Any lows? If so, what's the upside?

boots: fiorentini & baker
skirt: charlotte russe
shirt: BCBG
bra: american apparel

Have you tried getting your hair cut? I have really curly hair that went flat. I was so sad - and then I got a haircut, which only happens once a year. My hair immediately got its texture back. I know how stressful it to have your hair go weird on you, so I thought I'd share. :)

in addition to getting it cut like alison mentioned above, you could try using a shampoo like suave's daily renewal to get all the excess product out - start from scratch. that helps my naturally wavy/curly hair get a lift.

I almost melted Saturday afternoon walking across a parking lot. 109ยบ?! And, why did I get stuck watching Dance Moms? I blame the heatwave.

As usual, nice stems.

Alison - I probably should get a little trim... I'm wondering if it's the dry heat we've had all summer.

A & C - I think the dirtier my hair the better the curls clump together. It's when I wash it that I have the most problems. :(

Margie - At least when it gets into the 90s it'll feel cool! ha.

Maybe a good cleanse for your hair would be good...a fresh slate. I've been using a different shampoo lately and my curly hair has been quite different as well. What's up with the magical camper on your chalkboard wall?! I know it's just a drawing but I'm oozing with jealousy...we're going tent camping this weekend and all I've been dreaming of nice little Airstream.

Amanda - The airstream drawing is for a food truck client I'm working with! I'll be posting more about this soon. I too have dreams of owning a little airstream to travel the states with. I can't wait until it cools down enough to go tent camping though. In fact, we have 15F sleeping bags (from our Everest trek) so we might even get some winter camping in this year.

the humidity definitely gives my hair the much needed boost to curl. and my hair gets curlier the longer it gets. but. i just bought suave professional style mousse and i have to say it's kinda amazing. it's super thick and creamy and doesn't leave the curls crispy. also, i use an old tshirt once i've put a ton of mousse in to scrunch and soak the mousse into the hair more. i always dry and then re-wet the top layer, put a little more product in, run the dryer just a bit without touching and then let it air dry. good luck! i hate when my hair doesn't do what i want.

Oh! Those boots!

I once bought those boots as a gift for myself, and I was BEYOND excited. But when they arrived, they hit my stumpy legs in exactly the wrong place and made them look even stumpier. There were bitter tears in my eyes as I re-packed the boots in the box and returned them.

They look fabulous on your leg stems. Well done.

I watched the Kings of Leon doc this weekend too!
Love your "upsides." Such a positive effort!

lol i like the trailer drawing

sounds like a great weekend =) we just spent it trying to keep from melting, too - it hurts to just go outside after 10am

ok - about the outfit - Lord knows you have the gams to rock that micro-mini, but - um - well, as someone who does not have the bod whatsoever to clothe myself in that manner - what happens when you sit down? is it undie-butt cheeks on chair, or do you sit on something, or.....?

and thos boots..... drool........

Mel - That is the saddest story ever. EVER.

Sally - Wasn't it so good? I kind of want to watch it again.

Jennie - Ha - thanks! I'll be posting the project I used that drawing for soon.

JoL - Haha. It's total undie / butt cheeks to the chair.

I would bet that you just need a little touch-up on your color! My hair is very similar to yours, and I find that with a significant amount of out growth it loses it's awesome curling abilities. It's just not "roughed up" enough.

Amandakay - I just touched it up! I'm rocking the ombre roots look these days. My hair is shorter than it has been before when it's been super duper curly! I have no idea what's going on with it.

I just bought some new product today. Hopefully that'll do the trick. :)

when my curls won't curl right i stop washing them - conditioner (a good conditioner) only till they start behaving again. kerastase shampoo or treatment helps too but it's sooooo expensive!

also dang, girl. you got gams for days.

I passed through OKC this weekend (We're traveling across country) and my GOODNESS - I'm not sure how you deal with that heat. Plus side, I got to have The Wedge Pizzeria. :)

PS: Dying to know what is going on with your airstream drawing. ;)

Nicole - I KNOW. The heat has been intense this summer. Right now we're at something like 60 solid days of 100F + heat. It's been a little demoralizing for sure.
