Marriage Equality (+ a giveaway) [closed]
Last month I shared with you all the YAY New York! poster that I helped design for a mass reception celebrating marriage equality. There is little I believe in more than love. And when it comes to equal rights - well, that's a no-brainer.
I designed this logo from an initial sketch I did for wedding photographers Bryan and Kendi (you can see the resemblance here). When I told them I would be refining and using it as a logo for marriage equality they smiled from ear-to-ear and wholeheartedly gave me their blessing. They were excited that their own project influenced this one. They felt like they were a part of it - and they were. They are.
And so are you.
So here's what I want you to do.
1. TAKE THE LOGO AND SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD
I want you to take the logo below (click on it for more sizes through my Flickr) and do what you wish with it. It's yours. Write a blog post about what marriage equality means to you (and leave me a link so I can read!). Add it as a button to your sidebar to show your support. Make stickers and paste them on every surface you deem fit. Tattoo it on your forehead. Make it the screensaver on your computer or iPad. Encourage others to do the same. I want this logo to become the symbol for marriage equality around the world.

2. WIN A TOTE
I am celebrating marriage equality here by holding a giveaway for a limited edition YAY New York! Marriage Equality tote bag.
The limited edition tote is a little different than the one pictured above but equally as rad (if not more). I promise.
All you have to do is comment with a valid email address that I can reach you at for shipping information - but while you're at it go ahead and say something nice about marriage equality. You have through Friday, August 12th (midnight) to enter. A winner will be selected at random.
3. BUY A TICKET TO YAY NEW YORK!
If you buy a ticket to attend YAY New York! you will not only be attending a party of a lifetime, you will also be entered in a raffle to win a photo session with Hart & Sol Photo. See more details here.

I've been praising New York all week, and would love the chance to win this awesome tote!
Go marriage equality. Now if only all the other states can follow their example! Thanks for the chance to win!

Katheleen, I already bought one--and when I saw that your design was being sold on bags, I jumped even higher to get the bag! I'm so excited to see you're involved in this. My sister is an up and coming wedding officiant, so I will tell her to make the logo a symbol on her page for her promise to marriage equality. YAY!
Olivia, Lovely at Your Side
Great tote!
Oh wow. This is nothing short of AWESOME! I love it.
Love is love and I gasp at the arguments against it. Really? Come on. Love stories are the best.
My email is mzezatti@yahoo.com
This is awesome Kathleen! Thanks for your part in this fabulous celebration!
i am so very proud of you for doing this. and i am so very proud of new york for passing this bill. now some very sweet and close friends of mine are able to be married, and that means the world to me.
Yea New York! Yea Marriage Equality!! Yea Kathleen! Boo-ya!!
ok, this might be long. the night it passed my husband and i were watching bill maher and he announced it on the show. i teared up and threw my hands in the air like i was on a rollercoaster. and then the same night i posted an image of the empire state building with it's rainbow lighting and said "way to go NY" on my blog. lost a follower...good riddance. have a very good friend that i've known since we were in kindergarten who was practically crying on facebook (he lives in new york) that he gets to marry his partner. it's just all so amazing and i'm so happy about it. then, recently when i was in new york walking the brooklyn bridge i spotted a billboard that said "if you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married". so, when i post this awesome marriage equality logo on my blog with a post i will also have to include an image of that billboard. sigh. um, so, duh...i'd love a tote!!

kathleen - thank you so much for allowing us to share your wonderful logo with the world. share we will!
i'm sick and tired of going to weddings, year after year, with my lgbt friends, knowing that they can't experience the special celebration for themselves. i'll finally be attending one of their weddings in new york this winter and could not be more excited!
I love the design! And as one of the couples who wed that first day marriage was valid (July 24th), I'm particularly proud of both NY and my (finally!) equal status.
Love the logo, and the tote, and all that they stand for. Well done...I mean, well designed!
Just love this logo, Kathleen! You are incredibly talented and inspiring and I am so glad I found you! Congratulations on yet another fabulous design. Super cool tote, too :) xo
Woo! I've been planning on doing this post for a while, now I have a cool graphic to go with it! I'll surely help spread it and it's message!
Lovely design Kathleen! It is a beautifully minimal representation of love. I am so touched by the work of New York and the photos and posts I have been seeing around the web lately. Congratulations to your for being a part of that!! I will make sure to share this on my blog!
LOVE the bag! Also love that you took your inspiration from Bryan and Kendi as I found your site through my absolute obsession with Kendi Everyday.
I'd be proud to sport such a bag around town...boggles the mind when I think of the people who don't understand that people are just people and love is just love.

Love it Kathleen! I would be honored to share your logo. I hope that sharing the love of logo and of marriage means the list of states will keep growing.
The story of the first couple to get a license/get married (can't remember), I think it was an 80 year old and a 75 year old, or something as equally touching just broke my heart.
Your involvement in this project makes me proud to be a reader. Thank you.
i love this. i've been excited about the up and coming opportunities for all to get married, and it kills me to see those who are against it. it's always refreshing to see so many for the cause. plus, i love those colors :)
kah2024@gmail.com
What a cool design! I know it might be wishful thinking for a state like OK to pass equal marriage, but I hope that soon all of my friends will be able to marry the people they love.

I am so proud of New York! Not to mention ecstatic that two of my friends were able to get married last Friday. Fortunately for me since I live out of town, they videoed the wedding and it was perfect!! And then to hear him talk about how surreal it was to wake up next to his husband the next morning still makes me teary eyed!
LOVE your design!!! I definitely be using it in one way or another.
Oh, and thank you. The more we talk about equality in all forms the better.
Just awesome that you're involved with this. Marriage equality means the world to me - without it, I'd never have been able to marry my wife! And to know that NY is in the game too...give me hope for the rest of the country.
Thanks. k.heintz.perkins@gmail.com
Great tote. Coming from Ontario, Canada, this has been in effect for some time, but I do remember feeling proud of my province when the same law passed.
Love this great design. Love tote bags. LOVE marriage equality. :)
{ford224@gmail.com}
Design is awesome and what it stands for is even better. Thank you for sharing this with us and letting us share it with others. I fall in love with your blog (and what you believe in) more and more each post. You inspire me.
This is lovely, lovely. I fear Oklahoma is a long way behind, but every step in the direction of equality is a good one! Good job, New York!
dennis.caitlin@gmail.com
posting this on facebook now!
I remember when I was in college and Portland was momentarily giving marriage licenses to same sex couples. People were lined up at the court house and it was so exciting and I was so proud to live in this city. It felt like Portland was at the start of a revolution, 7 years later same sex couples still don't have the rights they deserve.

i love the logo & the bag is adorable. marriage equality means that i can marry my love and not worry that we or future children will be discriminated against.
thank you.
Beautiful work, beautiful message.

I love the symbol and this is a wonderful cause. Thanks for being awesome.
Marriage for Everyone. Everwhere. It really is the only way to operate. Kindess. Equality. Love. etc. etc.
I love your design. Beautiful.
Put my name in!
AWWW! Although the most amazing thing about love is that it lasts while being intangible, it's so nice, not to mention NECESSARY, to make it tangibly recognized by all. :)
kaylan.mills@gmail.com
That's really awesome! I love the design and would love to wear that around Oklahoma - we need to move forward here!
I even already bought one over at Meg's site, and I would still love to win this one. Because then I can rep marriage equality when I go to work AND to the grocery. Which is important. Because marriage equality would make our society more moral, just, and stronger.
Also because I love the design.
Count me in on spreading the word & logo!
1st step - pinning it
2nd step - facebooking this post
3rd step - blogging...that will take a while longer, because I want to get it right. :)
I would LOVE to have that tote. :)
I am so touched by the honesty of your gesture. I've spread the word via FB and Twitter and I hope to see everyone do the same! If only California would hurry up and join NY!! Yay for Marriage and Yay for Equality!

I' totally, seriously, and whole-heartedly in love with this post, your design for marriage equality, and of course that tote. LOVE IT!

This is such a wonderful idea Kathleen. Thank you for the use of your work. I will be sharing it with everyone I know and then some. :)

YEAH EQUALITY!!!!11
Everyone should have equal rights to be married! Unfortunately Australia sucks at equality so we need more totes over here to spread the word! :D
YAY NY! =) And you're right...love and equality is a total no brainer.

I want to enter! Dancingheather@cox.net
It is good that marriage = equality, because love = love!! And human = human. And one person's religious views should not prohibit the life choices of another.
I heard a story on NPR about the difficulties same sex married couples have... when they want to get divorced. Because no one ever said anything about legalizing gay divorce. o_O It's still on their website if you wanna read.
A beautiful logo for a beautiful cause. Hoping the south will reverse its backwards ideology soon too. Love is love, people.

This is such a great way to combine art and social justice. The design is so simple, yet so meaningful. I love it.

Fucks yeah! (I hope that wasn't too strong of language, but we're pretty darn excited over here!) I'm gonna share, share, share! :)
This tote is badass. I'd love to win, but I'd gladly buy one too. :)

Yeah NY -- it's about time!! So happy that more and more people are getting behind this. Your design awesome, the bag is awesome, open-mindedness is awesome!!
I am very happy that I live in a country (Canada) that recognizes this equality. This logo is fantastic idea and I will definitely share it. Awesome, Kathleen.

Great tote design! I'm so excited for New York! The wedding photos that have floating around the web are so full of joy and beauty.
michellerlewis at g mail dot com
Love the design & the cause!
Kathleen, this logo is amazing. I was so encouraged by NY's recent law. It just makes me so happy that one of my good friends from college can finally get married to his partner of 10 years. (They're having a barbecue in September and I suspect that's when they'll officially announce their wedded bliss.)
I would love a tote and I'm definitely going to show my support.

Great logo, great cause. I'd love a tote!

(ps - hart and sol photographed my wedding and were AMAZING. whoever wins that prize will be thrilled!!!)
This is such a no-brainer and is ridiculous that it just isn't SO! My husband is Japanese and I'm Caucasian and at our wedding 3 years ago, it was not lost on us that years ago even WE could not have gotten married. We went to Chicago for our honeymoon and were there for Obama's acceptance speech and met some wonderful couples along the way. This better happen in our lifetime or else!
That is a wonderful design in support of a wonderful cause!
marraige equlity = a basic human right, like life liberty and the pursuit of ones own happiness..
thanks so much for this opportunity..

I have many friends rejoicing at this milestone moment. I agree with Becky - it's a basic human right. I'm so excited you got to be such an important part of it, Kathleen!
Lovely tote and lovely message.

I love this design! I just got engaged (yay!) and now more than ever I can't stand that some people simply aren't allowed to legally validate their relationship. It kills me. Good job NY, well done Kathleen, and damn if I didn't wish you were still designing wedding invites! If you change your mind... crogersone(at)yahoo(dot)com
Thanks momma!
I love this tote! Yay New York. Thanks for the awesomeness!
sthar711@yahoo.com
Yay! New York! I love seeing more and more states move towards equality! BTW your logo is lovely!
Love the tote + love your blog!
"YAY New York" for sure! Love is love, simple as that. I'll definitely be adding the logo to my blog sidebar.

I love your design, & I love marriage equality.... any equality. I'd be proud to wear that tote.
I was born and raised in NYC so when NY passed the law...I was super excited and proud.
I've always felt that "equality for all" in all aspects of life.
Love the tote!
Love it, powerful simplicity.
