More Michigan

OKtoMIMap

Two years ago, Jeremy and I had the pleasure of visiting Liz and her family at their cabin nestled in a bay of Lake Superior near Sault St. Marie, Michigan. Liz invited us to come up again this year and we took her up on it.

Reading

Our days would begin with sipping on coffee and catching up - for three hours. Here the universe commands you slow down. Time here seemed to only be dictated by the position of the sun in the sky. In the afternoon we would get in our swimsuits, hop in the sauna (at 240F) for 10 minutes, run straight into the freezing lake for a swim, dry out in the sun on the beach while reading a book, and play fetch with Hannah (the sweetest golden retriever ever). Rinse & repeat.

Sunset

Before we knew it coffee time would transform into wine time. The sun would gently say goodnight and the sky would become peppered with layers upon layers of stars.

Some day, I would like to have a magical little nook on Earth, like this, to call home.

Your words, coupled with your photos, made me close my eyes and just about feel it. It was lovely.

This is so dreamy. I wish I was there. One day, I, too, would like a place like this to call home. It's so perfect!

Looks like an amazingly relaxing vacation!

my dream is also to some day have a small vacation cabin. my husband's family owned a cabin in canada that we went to every single summer for 10 years... and they sold it 2 years ago. it was heart breaking (even for me, but my poor husband had been going there every summer for 27 years...) when we said goodbye to the cabin we promised that we'd some day, some how, get our own vacation home. i'd like to find one a little bit closer to where we live though.

thanks for the photos, it looks so very peaceful...

There's nothing like the Great Lakes. So much more than people think. Big, powerful, beautiful.

Thoughts on the Gladwell book? I love The Tipping Point and have been thinking I should pick this one up!

i was just talking about how we still need to go up north (that's what you say when you live in michigan) before it gets too cold. your pictures are making me think it needs to happen very soon :)

liz is so, so beautiful! :)

So beautiful Kathleen. Thank you for sharing.

You should really write a kid's book called "A Magical Little Nook on Earth." Or let me steal it :P

Sounds relaxing looks like you've had a good time:)

I want to go to there. Also, I would have to agree with abi.

That dock, that sunset....perfection!

Amazing photos - just a really great post.

oh wow... this seriously sounds like the perfect vacation!!!!!

liz is pretty!

I am obsessed with Michigan! I visited once, and it has been my dream to own a house there ever since.

I'm having some serious chair envy.

Also, your friend has a beautiful, heart-ful kind of smile.

wow. What a beautiful place. If a photo could convince me to travel to a place, the dock photo would've had me. Wow. unreal.

I was up in the UP last year for a wedding and it was SO BEAUTIFUL! Nate and I kept talking about building a cabin up there. :)
