Anatomy of an Outfit: A New Jacket

Last week I was on a business trip with my sister in Lawrence, KS (my new favorite city) - as we rolled into town we found some coffee on the main drag downtown - we also found a really rad clothing store where I found this really rad Ben Sherman jacket. I looked at the price tag and decided to try and forget it about it. That lasted about 2 seconds because before I knew it I was trying it on and fell in love.

So I bought the a-little-too-expensive jacket and guess what. I've been wearing it almost every day since then. I can pair with a sloppy bun, grey deep v and jeans and instantly feel more professional. More confident. Like I know what I'm doing. So I think it's safe to say the jacket was a worthwhile investment.

jacket - ben sherman
tee - bdg / urban outfitters
scarf - urban outfitters
leggings - american apparel
boots - fiorentini & baker

That feeling of realization that you'll get so much use out of an expensive purchase is SUCH a good one. Glad you're glad :)

i love ben sherman. and those boots!! i know we're really not close enough for this…but…nice behind.

Lawrence is such a fun place. Lots of good shopping and places to eat :) Your jacket is the perfect souvenir!

ah, lawrence. it's been a while.

i like the jacket.

I have that scarf too! I like the jacket too. I always love splurging on clothing items while traveling. It's a nice memento. Sigh. I *still* covet those boots. :)

Has anyone told you that you're a total babe, today? Becuase you are! Hot jacket.

Alivia - I've decided that part of being a successful business woman is splurging on a couple of investment pieces here and there.

Racheal - YES! I'm in love with Lawrence.

Kelly - Did you live there? Did you go to KU?

Nicole - It's a good scarf, right!?

Ashlae - Aw, shucks! Thanks, you!

Anna - Friendly booty comments are always welcome. ;)

Super cute outfit. Also, I came across this video earlier and it reminded me of your post you made a few months back:

Seriously awesome jacket -- it's such a great length too for your whole look. And I honestly believe that when you really fall in love with a piece you should get it, even if it's a bit of a splurge. Trust me, when you don't, you'll regret it. I'm still dreaming about a pair of shoes I passed up four years ago.

cost per wear is always a good thing to do. A £5 top you'll wear once is £5/wear. A £100 jacket you wear *every*single*day* for an entire season and then a couple times a week for the next 6 months, and keep bringing out on a regular basis for the next few years is only pennies per wear.
Usual awesome legs comment from me.

(I'm in the UK, I have no idea how much stuff costs in $'s, but you get the idea)

this outfit is actually fine by my standards (ha!) because ur butt is covered. now if you wore these with a crop top... I would definitely have to stop loving you.
This outfit is cute and I would totally wear it, I LIVE in leggings in the winter. With no visible butt or camel toe (is that too much to ask for??)

i love it and your pics are my favorite. the end.

Please tell me your secret to having a back side that looks like that. :)

Eugenia - Love that Beyonce!

Brandi - Four years!? That's a bummer. You need to go find those shoes.

holholhol - YES! I do this all the time with clothing and the amount of money I spend on my hair.

Tomorrow / Emily - Don't tempt me! ;)

Meredith - Shucks!

Becka - my secret is:
A. I wished for a booty
B. I do lots & lots of squats / lunges
