Okay, I know I said I was
done designing wedding invitations. And I am - but I still have a couple more custom suites to share with you guys. Carly, a super sweet not crazy bride, and long time blog reader asked me to design her wedding invitations when she got engaged to her man, Travis. She wanted something that was quirky and Anthropologie-ish with a little bit of modern elegance. Here's what I came up with:

I love that each piece isn't super matchy-matchy but still cohesive with gold and dove gray running through each design - it reminded me of an old patchwork quilt when I was done with it. These invitations were printed digitally on a silky cream cover weight stock. Carly and Travis used kraft paper envelopes with a custom-made return address banner stamp I designed to match.
Love those! Those colors are great. I go through periods of time where I want to put banners on everything I design, I just love them so much.
ReplyDeleteThis post just makes me wish you hadn't decided to stop designing invitations--so beautiful! I guess I'll just have to stalk your archives whenever I need a little inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMelanie - I loved pairing the sweet & simple banners with a more image heavy back. I know they're trendy right now but also so classic.
ReplyDeleteTakingBackTiffany - Aw, that's really sweet! Honestly, I was still wrapping up a few invitation projects when I decided to quit working on wedding projects and every time I would pick up a piece from the printer I would consider changing my mind. I am proud of my invitation work and am so appreciative of the experience working on them.
But that said - I'm really excited about focusing on branding and inspiring other creatives through Braid.
Love it! Question - How do you come up with your ideas for patterns? I have a hard time with that. Do you draw them out first, just play with shapes, or modify similar existing? all of the above?
ReplyDeleteJennie Bee - These here are found patterns from an art nouveau book. I play with scale, color and proportion to make them my own and not so clip-arty.
ReplyDeletei admire you for your attention to detail! those patterns are beautiful. i would love to take a look inside your process :)
ReplyDeleteI love the art nouveau patterns! I'm a sucker for anything art nouveau (as my own wedding invitations and basically entire wedding make very clear!).
ReplyDeleteLOVE this set!! The design is awesome, but the colours really draw me in :) Still absolutely love your hand drawn font
