Just like everyone else I'm thinking about my goals, lists and dreams for 2012. Somehow that includes Googling images of Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley.
Let's go back to 1991. I'm nine years old and watch Aliens for the first time - dubbed on a scratchy old VHS tape. The film moved me - partially because I looked exactly like Newt but also because I wanted to be Ripley. Especially in that moment when she makes her entrance in that power-loader suit. So cool.
And then Terminator 2: Judgement Day comes out. Because I have older siblings and rad parents I get to go see it in the theater. I became mesmerized by Sarah Connor's ability to do pull-ups. I wanted to be her too. At 9-years-old these bad ass heroines made a permanent impression on me.
So, in 2012 I'm planning on getting in my best shape yet. Yogis in standing splits and celebrities with 6-packs in bikinis are great inspiration for some - but I'm going to hold images of Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley in mind as I work towards becoming a badass of my own. I want to be in the kind of shape that gets me up walls and to the tops of mountains, and in the event that the world does end in 2012 maybe I can get through that too (we know I have the wardrobe for it). I guess while I'm at it I might as well learn how to shoot a gun, stock up on little white undies and burn all my bras.
I'll be sharing details on my workout routine and how I plan on getting in my best shape yet in 2012 later this week. For now I want to know: who inspires you to be a badass?
Love these chicks! I need some badass inspiration for working out - I might borrow them from ya ;)

Sigourney Weaver is hot, but I've got to say that Alien is far superior to Aliens (the sequel).
ReplyDeleteAs corny as it sounds, watching Wildboyz inspires me to be a badass. I think, if these idiots can get out there and face a great white without thinking twice, surely I can conquer the petty fears I've got.

Sarah - Feel free to use Sarah Connor & Ripley for inspiration as needed. ;)
ReplyDeleteAshley - It's so funny - I feel like I was born in a time where the sequels of all these classics (Terminator, Alien, Indiana Jones, Mad Max, etc.) were the ones I saw first - so I always think of those as MY experience with the films. Like when I finally saw the first terminator I couldn't understand why Arnold Schwarzenegger was trying to kill them!
Right now you and this post are working as inspiration for me ;)
ReplyDeleteCome with me to a TRX class. You will love it!!!
Ani DiFranco! Physically her arms and upper body are so strong. But also, she really is a badass. I always look to her for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Garner in her Alias days! Good luck! Jillian's 30 day shred is a great start...so is Bikram Yoga if you haven't tried it!

ReplyDelete@Kim - Oh, I loved Jennifer Garner in Alias, ha!
ReplyDelete@Kathleen - My dad inspires me to be a badass. He is a retired colonel in the Army Reserves. He was in the best shape of his life at my age. At the beginning of his military career, he was involved in special forces and would be sent into some crazy situations, such as breaking up prison riots. He has stories for days. I'm always awestruck by his bravery and astonished by how much ass he kicked. He was one tough dude. Still is! When I'm in the middle of a workout, and I feel that mental fatigue set in, I think of him, and it kicks me into another gear! xo.
Posts like this inspire me 100%! And seeing others progress so keep us posted. That being said there is something awesome about Jessica Beil - when she did Blade 3 she was right up there in bad ass womenhood w/ Sarah Connor!!! If you've never seen it check it out, she'll make you want to do more pull ups!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I need to get back on that bar!
