Tea and Meditation

TeaMeditation

It started the day before New Year's Eve - with a little tickle in my throat. It rapidly expanded into my head and tonsils. And today I'm dealing with the aftermath which involves copious amounts of snot and a raw voice.

I'm sad because I'm ready to get moving with Operation: Badass. But maybe this is my body's way of telling me to slow down for a minute. Slow down. Slow. Down. So opposed to my original plan of P90x2-ing my way into badassery, I'm going to be spending the rest of this week recovering with the company of green tea and quiet meditation.

I've been meditating consistently for a few months now. For someone who isn't traditionally "spiritual" I've found a good amount of peace in sitting silently for 20-30 minutes a day as I fill my body, home, planet and universe with light, love and good vibes. The old cynical me is laughing in my face and making sarcastic remarks about "that hippie bullshit" - but the part of me that wants to be optimistic, kind & wise is more powerful right now.

Sorry to hear you're sicky.
I have a hard time meditating/sitting still for a long time (i.e. anything more than 10 minutes at a time) so I'd be interested in knowing more about how you came to practice meditating. Are you following some kind of "guidelines"? Or just winging it?

i think i may just be in the beginning stages of whatever you have! definitely drinking lots of that same tea right now. i would love to hear more about your meditating as well. it's always been something i think would help but feel silly/don;t know how to get started!

The same thing happened to me. I was ready to push it into high gear (there's a 5K I want to dominate in that's this summer), but instead of being physically ill I'm just mentally drained.

But green tea and meditation seem like just what I need, actually. Think I'll give that a go.

I've started taking a few sachets of "my" tea with me whenever I travel (Twining's Irish Breakfast, in case the whole world wants to know). Since I drink it every. single. day., it's a very important (though small and simple) way to stay centered while I'm running around the country/WORLD.

Feel better. I'm sending light and love your way.

Through my vagina.

Being sick blows. Hope you feel better soon! Jealous of your meditation time...hoping I can fit that into my schedule eventually (like when Molly is 10).

Get well soon and let us know how you like P90X! I am starting TurboFire again next week and will probably move on to P90X again after that. My first thing that I have to handle though is my diet... I need to eat REAL food - last time I did these workouts I was cheating myself with a bad diet and didn't see good results.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! ox

I really do need to take a lesson from you and learn to just sit with myself. I always have something to do and another project to work on, but I've been finding little moments of quiet and reflection and they are so restorative. I see more tea and mediation in my future. And maybe some rock climbing too.

Get well & Happy 2012

I think it's going around pretty quick, I caught a cold too and today I sound like I should be a man...

I agree with Brandi! I may have to take a page out of your book though, because that tea looks delicious and I can always use a little relaxation time.

I drink the same exact tea as Liz...but not every. single. day.

Just most mornings.

Does jeremy want you to look like a dude?

Kate & Rachael - I will try and share more on my technique in the future. But for now check out some guided meditations on YouTube!

Liz - I'm making that hand motion. You know the one.

Hallie - I'll send Molly some zen in my next meditation. ;)

Kelly - I'm liking P90X so far. I'll keep you updated!

Brandi & Joanna - Me too. I'm always going, doing & making. Meditating is a nice to to just allow and be.

Kevin - Jeremy said he wants me to look like a ... flower. I think that's just as unattainable as looking like a dude. Or Marilyn Monroe. You know?

For those of you who are curious - my friend Mel has been writing (eloquently and with helpful links) about her experience with starting meditation. Check it out here: http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2012/01/05/start-continu/
