As I was graduating design school in 2004 my professors told us that to get a job we would need to invest in a navy blazer with gold buttons. They told the guys to wear red ties and us ladies to always wear our hair up to be perceived as professional.
So, here I am. Professional.
Blazer - JCPenney's
Tank - F21
Husband Jeans - Jeremy's - Gap
Shoes - Michael Kors
Watch - Casio
If you wore a navy blazer AND a red tie (and maybe some double sided tape for the blazer) You would be my new idol.
ReplyDeleteI was told a black suit with a white dress shirt. You know, like we're performing in a symphony. Cause that makes you totally stand out. Right.
ReplyDeleteI firmly believe I got my current job at the Nature Conservancy because I was wearing a necklace with a horseshoe crab on it for my interview...
I've always said, "Beware the red tie of middle management".
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you're there yet... Maybe a pop of red lipstick would really make it say "pro" ;)
ReplyDeleteBianca - It's so funny because as I was uploading these photos I was thinking red lips would've completed this outfit for sure! I almost photoshopped it in. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI love this as I'm sitting here in my workout clothes (that should have been washed two workouts ago), no makeup, mismatched socks (for real), and my hair in a braid, covered with a black knit camp (a leftover from our almost-run this morning that had to be abandoned because it started pouring rain and the temperature dropped to 40-something).
ReplyDeleteYes, it's that kind of day. But I just finished the piece of writing I had due, and now I'm going to eat and take a shower.
And wash my workout clothes. I promise.
You are adorable in your "professional" outfit! :)

Hah! Awesome! I'm wearing blue pants...does that count?

How sad that women wearing their hair down would be considered unprofessional. I would expect more from an industry that values creativity! Women's hair must get in the way of the creative.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the high bun. Almost as good looking as your low buns. Dang I'm clever.
ReplyDeleteI will never in a million years forget how they drug us all across the street to Harold's to take us on that ridiculous "tour" of how to dress for a professional job.
ReplyDeleteUGH. Harold's. ::shivers::
love this look - I've been pinch rolling my jeans a lot lately. I don't usually snag my husbands jeans BUT, I have a few pairs of ratty, old, extreme flare jeans that seem to fit the bill. :)
ReplyDeleteMel - I probably designed most of Well Fed in my workout clothes.
ReplyDeleteRachel - YES! I was replaying that experience over and over again in my mind as I was posting this.
