This old deco house has been sitting abandoned for as long as I can remember - and for as long as I can remember it has been dubbed my dream house (along with the few other mid-century deco homes in OKC). Just recently it has started going under construction. This morning on my walk to work I decided to go pay this handsome house a visit - I noticed a new "for sale" sign out front. I did a little
Only in my dreams.
That'll be chump change for you soon enough, don't you worry.
ReplyDeleteUp until last year I lived just a block from this place. When I saw the construction I feared they were going to tear it down. So glad they're trying to bring new life to it!
ReplyDeletei'm sorry, did you say this is going for 250K? I wonder if I can live in OKC and keep my job in DC?
ReplyDeleteFrancine - Ha. I'm trying to figure out ways to justify the huge expense to downsize. It's just not adding up.
ReplyDeleteChelsi - Yes! I'm excited to see what it looks like finished.
Sara - Tempting, right? The cost of living in OKC is pretty amazing.
I guess I've been living under a rock...I didn't know about this midcentury deco period. I'm not a huge fan of the original art deco period, but I love (and live in a) midcentury modern ranch homes. This mixture of the two is very cool. I love that you can see both elements, distinctively, yet they mesh together very well. The windows are my favorite...we have several of these on our house, and although efficiency-wise they should be replaced, I can't bare to part with them!
ReplyDeleteI'm a house day-dreamer too. I love driving around neighborhoods on nice days, just to see what's out there. I've found myself making up stories such as, "just looking at this house for a friend/family member who is moving into to town soon", so it doesn't seem that I'm The Nosy Open House Crasher.
Thanks for sharing, and maybe-just-maybe you'll call this home one day...
"...can't bear to part with them." Oops.
ReplyDeleteI too love that building, but that price has me shaking my head. really?
ReplyDeleteDream big! For serious :)
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I can see the inside of this property. But judging from the exterior, I bet the interior is pretty neat. And I must say that you have such a unique taste for space. And only in your dreams? Nah, I don’t think so. You never know, this property might be yours in the near future! =) [Erick Bush]
