I forgot to show you all the couch!
Probably because I've been avoiding showing you the living room. From this angle it's looking pretty good. Coming together nicely.
From these angles, not so much.
What do I need here? I don't want something that takes away from the TV. Maybe a large mirror? It would reflect the window behind the couch, which is always nice. We also got a lamp that matches that on the left for the right side (I think some bookend symmetry here would be nice) but the shades are different colors due to aging.
This angle isn't great either. (Please ignore the phallic cat post - that in conjunction with soft paws is keeping our furniture intact. I also didn't bother with art directing these whatsoever.) Jeremy hung the curtains that we scored at IKEA for $14 a pair - and it certainly helps warm the room up. I still need to hem them with the iron-on hem tape provided with the purchase.
And then we've got this. The worst of the bunch. This is what you see when you walk in the front door. I'm not sure what to do. I do think we need some sort of buffet or bench or something... but I might be at a loss.
So, dear readers, what do you think? I have an idea but I want to hear you out first and I want to have something fun to post about tomorrow!
I think something of the buffet/credenza/high, narrow table variety. No more seating, as I think anything else would just be dwarfed by your couch (No more seating?! Listen to me. Hypocrite!)
ReplyDeletePlus, you still kinda need a landing-strip area. A place to put your keys, sorted/unsorted mail, bag, etc. when you walk in the door.
oh man, this interior design stuff gives me a headache. I tend to go for the minimalist/cluttered taxidermy look. I couldn't imagine decorating a whole house! kudos to you and your tenacity!
ReplyDeleteMinimalist clutter can sum up exactly what I'm trying to achieve!
ReplyDeleteHaha!
I'm thinking that you need some kind of tall focal point on the mantel. Some really big piece to draw attention there, and raise up the rest of the room visually. You may want to move the lamp next to the TV console somewhere else, because that makes everything look SO tiny.
ReplyDeleteLOOOOVE the couch. It looks so comfy. Also, what about painting the inside of your bookshelves?
Ok, enough throwing around of ideas. :)
