House Inspiration

I've been looking for a great mirror to hang above our fireplace mantel but I can't find anything locally and everything is just way out of our price range.

Liz had the brilliant idea to hang a bunch of smaller mirrors.

I saw this photo over at Desire to Inpsire and was... well, Inspired.

I want to gather a bunch of frames from garage sales, thrift and antique stores and paint them all the same color. Maybe something just slightly darker than the creme color on the wall. I could fill some of them with mirrors and leave some empty like the photo.

In other home inspiration news... I got the Pottery Barn catalog in the mail this week and saw this chandelier.

Around the turn of the century, designers like Adolf Loos were drawn to the austere beauty of industrial light fixtures and adapted them for home interiors. In that spirit, we’ve taken the bare essentials of lighting – wires, sockets and bulbs – and elevated them to a lofty aesthetic. The chandelier can be hung in any configuration to suit any room's decor. Ten fabric-covered cords extend from a circular bronzed ceiling plate.

I think it would be so dreamy to have a chandelier in the master bedroom but the lack of an overhead fan might not go over well.

It also kind of reminds me of the lighting Wayne Coyne has in his kitchen.

  1. I really wish I had some of my old saved house pictures to show you of all different sized frames and mirrors. I saw it in pottery barn a while ago and started collecting random frames but in all my procrastination, I never did anything with them. This is the only one I still had saved on my flickr but they're not framed: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/244/462183967_54c888184d.jpg I actually keep all my catalogs for inspiration so I'm going to go through them and see if I can find the main picture I had.

  3. Aura - first I LOVE that little fireplace. I wish I could perfectly put together all the shelves on the side of my fireplace but I think it's just going to take time. Second, they have mirrors like the first link you posted at Target right now!
