Jeremy did a really great job at organizing the whole thing by himself.
And maybe a little help from Liz. She sent this package home with me one day after work - and for the record, I did NOT look inside.
Jeremy organized the character objectives out on the nook table. As everyone arrived they opened their envelope filled with tasks, fake money and a name tag.
While Jeremy was working on that I worked on set decorations.
We got all fancied up.
Meet head mobster Nick Nemetz and his lovely fiance Molly Moll.
Then our friends started showing up. They were instructed to come in through the side door (it is a Speakeasy after all!) and whisper the password: Mister Scooty Boots is a precious little boy. So sweet, and so darling. He's a dear heart.
Meet my dear friend, Ashley as Kitty Cocktail and her main squeeze Cy Ramsey (played by her husband Colin), gun dealer and Nick Nemetz's right-hand man.
He even came packing!
Hallie as Flora Nemetz, Nick's (Jeremy's) ex-wife.
My sister, Tara, as Chief Cameron.
Liz as Rosie - the Juice Joint owner.
We all drank iced-tea vodka out of tea cups. That's what they did back in the day to be discreet about drinking bootlegged booze.
There were 13 guests and once they all arrived we all mingled, ate appetizers and tried to extort each other for information.
I learned that everyone hated each other and all had a motive for killing anyone in the room.
After the sun set Jeremy (as Nick Nemetz) gave a speech professing his love for me, Molly Moll. Then there was a loud bang and the lights went out. Jeremy died and as the lights turned on a chalk outline was exposed in the dining/living area.
Meanwhile, Jeremy had performed a costume change in seconds - all while he was dying!
He was now playing the role of P.I. Pinkerton, an investigator in charge of gathering evidence regarding the murder.
We wound up being too tipsy on tea to stand up on our own - much less figure out a murder mystery. Liz thought it was herself that committed the crime...
You'll have to have your own murder mystery to find out!
It was hands-down the best birthday party I've ever had. Thank you to Jeremy and all of my friends for making it such a blast. Next year we'll hit up Medieval Times. ;)
P.S. Today is my birthday! My dad almost named me Cinco but with help from my mom decided on Kathleen.
Wow, you guys are impressive. And your friends are amazing for playing along. Looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI STILL think I did it...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
Note to self: never drink out of tea cups again! Thanks for an evening I will never forget.

ReplyDeletegreat idea!
ReplyDeletecan I borrow your friends sometimes? Cuz they look rad and way phat fun. I've wanted to do one of these murder mystery parties (I even bought a set on how to do it) but I know, I KNOW, nobody would get super into it.
ReplyDeleteIt looked divine - and your get-up was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
i love that at these parties you don't know who the murderer is and a lot of the times the murderer doesn't know it's them!!! i love your sisters costume.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas & pictures! Just linked to this post from the MyPunchbowl blog where I wrote about online invitations and ideas for a murder mystery dinner party.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had an awesome time and I love some of your costumes. A group of our friends did the same mystery around the same time.
ReplyDeleteCan I make one suggestion: that you either delete or change the part in your blog about whom the guilty party/parties are - you may be giving away the ending to other groups! Thanks & keep up the great blog.
Thanks, Kevin! Sorry about the spoiler. I changed it. At the time I had about 30 followers and since my blog has grown in popularity I didn't even think of it.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Your blog is my new absolute fav(e)! I love it! Thanks for sharing stuff : )
ReplyDeleteinspiring all around from food to fashion home and parties!
