But I think I'm getting close.
They actually look pretty good in the background of this photo.
But if I could get every single shelf looking like this one I'd be a happy girl.
On this shelf alone I have invaluable information that tells me how to survive marriage, zombie attacks and nuclear attacks - with the help from not one but two pairs of binoculars.
This post was brought to you by the letter "K".
great shelving & decor.
ReplyDeleteI think it will solve itself over time. It's one of those things you can't rush.
ReplyDeleteI can see you collecting a lot more white porcelain/ceramic things and stuffing the shelves with them- it'd be all texture, and it wouldn't ( I don't think) look crowded, because it'd all be monochromatic.
since you like collecting this in the white family (or so it seems from the items on the shelves) have you thought about painting the wall behind the shelves inside the niche? perhaps a bright blue or purple or something so that the white bottles and such would really pop in front of it?
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with my shelves. No matter how I arrange, it never looks right to me.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you are looking for suggestions but I think what you had in the first photo was just too small. You need to vary the height and fill up more of the white space. But take what I say with a grain of salt b/c clearly I don't know jack.
Gosh, thank you everyone for the suggestions. I do know that I want to keep everything monochromatic or grouped by the same color family. I definitely need to get some height in there or have the preciousness of everything look more intentional. *sigh* I'm working on it. I do like that it will develop over time... it makes it interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm a book freak so take this suggestion with a grain of salt, but perhaps some reading material would enliven the shelves? Maybe stacked rather than shelved?
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI hear ya' - I've actually got the built-in shelf on the other side of the fireplace chock-full of books. I might even things out though and move some over to the other side.
The 'K' shelf is fabulous and what more could you want from a shelf, xv.
ReplyDeleteLove it. I'm on a huge white kick lately with just a splash of color. I just bought some white vases/containers from TJ Maxx to re-do our mantle. I definitely think some more height would make this just perfect. And I really love the binoculars! I have an old camera that the receptionist at my hair school gave me. It was her husbands before he passed away, she said she hid it under her nun outfit when they came over on a boat. For real. I will cherish it always. And Michael's dad's old camera is in it's case sitting on our shelves, too.
ReplyDeletethat shelf with the binos looks totally rad kathleen - LOVE that. I can't wait until all my med school books are in some office somewhere so my shelves can once again be filled with lil lovelies.
ReplyDeleteAura - what a story! That is really sweet. I have a shelf dedicated to my cameras too - the Holga, polaroids and a Lomo.
ReplyDeleteMountain Bride - Thank you! Oh! I do have a copy of Gray's Anatomy on one of my shelves. I've sourced it for lots of college design projects.
