This incoming Fall weather has got me a little nostalgic for my teenage years. You guys - I loved Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. I was too pre-pubescent to want to make out with these grunge idols so instead I wanted to be them. And I was too unsure of rocking my own undeveloped femininity to emulate Courtney Love or Shirley Manson. So I wore flannels and combat boots. I was voted most non-conformist every. single. year.
Well, now I'm perfectly comfortable with my feminine side. My nostalgia combined with combined with Rookie Magazine's (brought to you by Tavi of Style Rookie - whom I adore) 90s aesthetic has me thinking about my combat boots and flannel roots. I know I'm 29 but I can't help but want to impress 13-year-old Kathleen with a Ramones shirt paired with a lacy skirt, knee high socks and badass boots. 13-year-old Kathleen is impressed but 29-year-old me had a hard time wearing this outfit through the day.
Boots - Fiorentini & Baker
Socks - Urban Outfitters
Skirt - Rodarte for Target
Shirt - From a local record store, years ago
Cardigan - Banana Republic
Headband (because someone always asks) - Scuunci (with silicone backing)
I love the skirt!
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm convinced you can pull off anything! :)
GAH. You and your layers. No matter how hard I try to emulate, it's never quite executed as flawlessly as yours. SHOW ME YOUR WAYS KATHLEEN.
ReplyDeleteI covet those boots. COVET. And your ability to layer like a boss (like the gal above said).
ReplyDeletecute. like always. duh.
ReplyDeleteHailey - Thanks! The Rodarte for Target collection has been my favorite Target / Designer collaboration yet.
ReplyDeleteAshley - It starts with embracing the scarf. I'll give you your next lesson after you learn to love (and wear) the scarf.
Nicole - xo!
Naurnie - YOU ARE.
looove that t-shirt paired with that sweater. cozy but edgy.
ReplyDeleteI had a sweater super similar to that! The way you wear your boots is always so cool, edgy yet feminine.
ReplyDeleteHehe, you look fun and cute!
ReplyDeleteYaaay fall layers! You look amazing and I'm always excited to see your Anatomy of an Outfit posts. So, is this what you're wearing to teach? Lucky, lucky students!
ReplyDeleteI have never commented before but my 13-year-old self is in heaven. My 29-year-old self (we're the same age) is GODDAMN IMPRESSED. I was Shirley Manson for Halloween last year and I totally wanted to take her look beyond that one night. Cheers to you, my internet style idol.
ReplyDeleteYou all! Thanks for the compliments!
ReplyDeleteChrissy - My small teaching stint is over... But thanks for reminding me that I need to post about it! I'll do that next week.
Nicole - That might be the sweetest comment ever. xo!
gabba gabba hey.
ReplyDeleteat a ramones concert in santa cruz in the 1980's, i was so struck by Joey's style. most people look like poseurs in all the 'rock n roll' plumage - strip them of the leather, boots, hair and you have a typical US suburban kid with orthodontia, etc.
But Joey came across like his hard edged duds were actually toning down the truly wild essence of who he was. pretty wild, and rare as well!
really cute look!! steph
Love the Ramones tshirt, and the fact that you'd totally fit in at any high school, regardless of what decade it might be.
