It was recently brought to my attention that while I'm great at manifesting grand ideas and big dreams Jeremy is best at holding down the fort. This made itself apparent last night while Jeremy was out of town on business. The cats were terrified that I was going to burn down the house and let them starve (in that order). The truth is - I was a little scared too. Boots and Dinahsaur decided it would be best to steer clear of me. That is until I put Jeremy on speaker phone. Then they gathered 'round like it was story time.
Every morning Jeremy and Mister Scooty Boots get in a good cuddle before Jeremy sets off for his nine-to-five. And then again in the evening when Boots curls up in Jeremy's lap and does this purr/snore/paw/purr thing as Jeremy checks his email. And Dinahsaur (pictured in the top photo) relies on Jeremy to turn on the bathroom faucet to a perfect drip every day at 5:14PM lest she die of dehydration. Because for some reason the filtered water he pours in her water bowl every morning isn't quite good enough. But he doesn't mind - it's his way of showing her how much he loves her even though she's kind of a sociopath who hates cuddling.
Jeremy doesn't stop at taking care of the cats. He also takes out the garbage every Monday and does the dishes every evening. And in the mornings he drags me out of bed with French pressed coffee and oatmeal. He does our laundry, pays the bills and keeps our iTunes loaded with good music. Bragging? Maybe a little bit. But more so, this is me being grateful for such a beautiful fort and a man who is strong enough to hold it all down.
This makes me wish I could have kitties so bad. I love them. Also, I love your stripes!
ReplyDeleteEric holds the fort down in the same ways! (except I tend to do the garbage more, because I can't stand waiting for it to get done...and I cook)...he always does the dishes...and pays the bills, and checks our insurance, etc. I love the balance that we've attained, it works for us!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour a good match! A sweet tribute to your man.
ReplyDeleteOoh! As long as we're making a list, I might add that I clean the cat box twice a day and do dishes three times a day. I also sweep and mop (occasionally) and pick up the little breadcrumb trail of items you leave behind everywhere you go (constantly). Ha!
ReplyDeleteI mean... You didn't tell me you were writing THIS blog post last night! Awwwwwww!
Damn he does all that? By choice or do you guys have like "designated chores"? My ex's only chore was laundry and he whined about it so much. You'd think I asked him to juggle flaming torches.
ReplyDeleteThis gave me chills. In a good way. You both are so great. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteChristin - It has taken a few years for me to become a cat person but now I melt for them.
ReplyDeleteOlivia - Isn't it nice? I feel like my contributions to our household are more abstract but equally important. (hopefully)
Lee - :)
Cara - xo!
Jeremy - Thank you.
Francine - He really does all that (and more as you can see from the comment above yours) and he does it with grace - which makes it easy to take for granted.
Meghan - I had to give credit where credit is due. xo!
I'm glad my cat isn't the only one out there getting faucet service when she is thirsty.
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky to have such a wonderful guy to keep you grounded and taken care of. What more could a dreamer ask for?
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. The more I learn about Jeremy, the more I think you may have locked down the perfect husband.
ReplyDeleteI also loved this post because of its kitty content. Being that my long-term (5 years in March!) boyfriend whom I live with is severely asthmatic and allergic to cats, I may never have a cat again. Your description of Dinahsaur as a sociopath was spot on for (certain and evidently yours) cats.
Such a sweet post - made me grin like a mad person :)
ReplyDeletewho ever said you cant have it all?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic man!
ReplyDeleteChris is good at holding down the fort, too. I think I've mopped the floors maybe 5 times since we got married 5 years ago.
He's super awesome with our kiddos, too. He wakes up with our kids at night when I'm to wasted to budge.
Thank God for husbands that do the dishes and make the coffee. I don't know what we'd do without them!
ReplyDeleteThis is similar to my marriage. In Myers Briggs terms, my husband is a Guardian (ISFJ) and I'm an Idealist (INFP). I live in ideas and BIG things and dreams, he lives in reality. Without him, we would never have groceries and the house would be a mess.
