I've had multiple friends tell me that I must watch Game of Thrones. Probably because they know my love for fur, leather, badass women, and post-apocalyptic fashion. So in just one week, Jeremy and I tore through the first season (we just started on the second season last night). I can't help but do a fist pump in the air, a mannerism I picked up as a teenager, when all the viewer discretion codes like V for Violence, BN for Brief Nudity, and AC for Adult Content every time we start a new episode. A fair
But here's the deal. Either I have zero room in my head for complex lineage and subtle backstory and completely lack comprehension skills for understanding what's going on or I'm just totally distracted by all the boobies. So the other morning – in the middle of our work day – I asked Tara (who's not only seen the show already but has read the series of Game of Thrones books twice) to explain it to me. My sister is especially gifted at telling stories and recapping movies, and TV shows, in a way that makes it almost more compelling than the actual film itself. She always "has a theory" about what's going on before she knows the ending and she's always right. But if she's wrong it would've been a better story if she had been right. So Tara spend a good hour excitedly explaining to me the family history, crests, and world that is Game of Thrones (without any significant spoilers, of course).
So what are Jeremy and I doing to celebrate Valentine's Day? We'll probably do some yoga, cook some good food, watch Game of Thrones, eat some super dark chocolate and sip on a lil' bit of Bourbon. Yup... sounds like a Thursday.
Oh yeah! I just heart Game of Thrones! Well, actually, I've read most of the books, but haven't seen the tv version. (I don't have premium cable and it's not available on Netflix streaming) I'll have to rectify this situation. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteSorry if this is a duplicate comment! I don't see the original one that I posted. I just heart Game of Thrones! I've read most of the books. But I don't have premium cable and it's not on Netflix streaming so I will have to figure something out. Eventually, I'll do a GOT marathon! But really, that's the best way to watch good TV. I hate waiting a whole week for the next show. :-) Happy Valentine's Day!!
ReplyDeleteas a HUGE fan i am interested to hear tara's theories. we have our own in our house so it's always fun getting the opinion of other fans.

ReplyDeleteMan, I am so enamored with this show as well. I've watched the first 2 seasons twice (had to re-watch once I convinced my boo to get into it). And now I'm reading the books! I'm halfway through the second book and I HIGHLY recommend reading them. They are fascinating and have a lot more depth for the history and relationships between the characters. Can't wait til 3/31! Season 3, according the my nerd brother who has read all the books, is the BEST.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the first season, I began reading the books. I have to do it in chunks though—if you think the sigils get confusing in the show, it's worse in the books ("Wait, whose sigil is a bloody boar eating a trout out of a river with a dragon flying overhead?") And I have found that in the books, certain characters are way more interesting to me than others (but I still have to read their chapters because that's what a Type A does)—it's less like that in the show, but it is nice to know what the characters are thinking nonetheless. Luckily my husband has read all of the books, so when I get my blood lines mixed up I can ask him to clarify. We've got season 2 in our Netflix queue, I'm looking forward to catching up on it!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit- I was a bit emotional at the end of the first season (WHAAAT JUST HAPPENED?!), but I haven't completed the second season yet. My husband has also read all of the books and is trying to make me read them now. Maybe I'll finally finish up the second season and sip a lil bourbon too ;)
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time throwing out my knowledge of medieval history to get into Game of Thrones. But once I did, holy shit I was hooked. I have a serious girl crush on Daenerys (and not all because of boobies), and absolutely love Peter Dinklage's performance as Tyrion.
ReplyDeleteThe storylines come together so beautifully on the screen, I'm glad HBO still backs the good stuff.
In case you get lost in the second season:

Leann! I CANNOT give you my theory of how it all ends... because, like Kathleen mentioned, I know I am right. And it would be a huge spoiler. Ha!!
ReplyDeleteBut I did tell Kathleen one spoiler which basically this: "Listen Kathleen, in the first book and series season one, this 'winter is coming' doomsday stuff seems all urgent and dire... I can tell you, I'm on book five and winter STILL ain't come."
Knowing you (online), I thought this post was totally going to be about periods. Ha! Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteNext to The Walking Dead this show is literally my most favorite show on TV. It's SO epic, EVERY TIME! We burned through the two seasons and I've been dying for the third ever since.
ReplyDeleteThe cast is amazing... you want to hear a funny thing. "Calesse" (totally spelled that wrong by the way) is dating Seth McFarlen (maker of Family Guy). How odd is that?
Love, love, love the show...and the books. I've read them all and highly recommend them. We actually named our cat Tyrion because we are that into all things GoT. Hope you like season 2!
ReplyDeleteI feel like if we lived closer, we would double-date. Bourbon and good food and Game of Thrones is our favorite night in. Miss your amazing face!
