Living the Dream

Dreamjobafternoon

It was 2:13PM on a sunny Monday afternoon (yesterday) when I suggested it was time to bust out the work bikini and work from the backyard. Tara is reading a book on shedworking and the alternative workplace revolution so she was all about it – what's the point of working for yourself if you don't allow yourself the flexibility to take advantage of sunny Spring afternoon? Our designer Kristin ran out to get us some iced green teas and a pair of shorts. I busted out my bikini, Raybans and a few blankets to lay out on.

By 2:45PM we were all soaking up the sun. This is the dream. I repeated it over and over again in my mind – a mantra to be forever grateful for the moment. And then I said it a few times out loud too.

It's a cold and rainy Tuesday morning. I'm in my Uggs, answering emails, and trying to squeeze just one more appointment into an already packed week. But the ever so slight sunburn on my stomach will serve as a reminder that I'm truly living the dream.

  1. Wonderful isn't it? I just did the same thing. It's cold here (Amsterdam, Holland) but the sun is shining so instead of working I took myself out for a walk in the city. It was wonderful + I can't wait until I can call my balcony 'office' once again :)

    Have a great week!

  2. It's strange how sometimes we forget that, with a nontraditional schedule/workplace (as a college teacher, I work from home 2-3 days each week) you can GO OUTSIDE if you really want to! Thank goodness for wireless internet, giant beach blankets, and good ol' fresh air. I try to remind myself that just because I'm working at home, it doesn't mean I can't sneak in a little outside time now and then. Cracking open a window is great...but man, to sit in the sun...that's living the dream. :-)

Now, if only it were more than 35 degrees outside right now....sigh. Stupid Ohio can't seem to understand that it's April quite yet. :-/

  3. I love that you have a work bikini. The second the weather warms up I will be employing that tactic as well.

  4. There is nothing like spring sunshine to lift your mood. Even though it's still relatively cold here in Canada, the sunshine feels so comfortably warm! Can't wait until our grass is green like yours so I can bust out the blanket in a park somewhere and spend a lazy afternoon reading.

  8. "work bikini"....yes, that's when you know you have created the dream job. :) Sure, it's not sunny every day, and some days are ridiculously hectic or stressful...but you know that you have that "work bikini" in your back pocket. Love it!

I also love that you are making sure you notice these moments and appreciate them. Sometimes we don't.

  9. Henna - that's exactly right. This blog has become the ultimate experiment in expressing gratitude. I've been lazy about capturing, shaping and sharing the little things lately – I'm trying to make it a practice again.
