A used kitchen.

My friend, Jenn, told me recently that she loves the feeling she gets in her grandma's kitchen. Like every single dish, pot and pan is really used. It made me think of my mom's deep dish cast iron pan that she uses to cook us German pancakes (hi mom, I want that when you die). It got me thinking about our own pots and pans - which ones will stand the test of time?

The pot on the stove - that one's going to last forever, I hope.

We really use our kitchen. My favorite is when a handful of friends come over for Dexter night (every Wednesday evening we gather to watch a show about a serial killer) and the kitchen gets all hot from cooking but there's still enough room for everyone to be standing around with a glass of wine.

Those stainless steel bowls - I hope those last forever too.

Cooking used to be reserved for special occasions and now it's happening every night. Now we really use our dishes, pots and pans and it seems to make our food creations taste that much better.

This is an omelette I made. Look at that color!

I learned how to eat (and cook) veggies. Here we have polenta fries, tilapia and asparagus.

Salmon patties (an old standby), garlic spinach and a sweet potato.

Butternut squash with garlic.

We're no Top Chefs but we're getting there.
