J + K: The wedding rings

When Jeremy proposed before even saying "yes" I said "what is that ring!?" (in a good way).

That ring happens to be his great grandmother's. The band is yellow gold and the center is white gold with a teeny-tiny diamond in the center. Everything about it is perfect and fits with our entire wedding/marriage vibe - intimate, meaningful and chock-full of history.

What's really neat about it is that it remind me of my own grandma's engagement ring.

Pretty much all of my favorite jewelry comes from my grandma (more on that later) - so when I was scouring her jewelry box almost a decade ago I came across this ring and fell in love. I got up the guts to ask her for it a few years ago.

Then we had to decide what to do about Jeremy's ring. Like mine, we wanted it to have personality. So when his grandma offered her wedding ring (a match to her late husband's) he gladly accepted.

It was already a perfect fit!

Do you have any jewelry that has a story behind it? If you're engaged/married what was your reaction when you first saw the ring? Tell me about it!

  1. I love this, and the rings! The diamond in my ring belonged to my husband's mother and was purchased by my father in law. The story is so sweet and everytime I look at it, I wish I could have met her.

  4. Tam - Jeremy's great grandmother has passed away too but his grandma speaks very fondly of her. I have a photo of her holding Jeremy's mom when she was a little girl and I kind of say a little "thanks" when I see it.

Jenn - Good marriage karma for sure!

Joanna - I LOVE your engagement ring. It's so sweet.

  6. i have no engagement ring and i didn't have a wedding ring until we had already been married a month or so. we were just wanted to be married and were too broke for rings. mine is just a white gold band with a teeny diamond solitare. everytime i look at it i think of our days when it was just the two of us, living on love. i hope i can give it to one of ours sons someday for him to give to his love.

Kristin - I love that! I have a friend whose parents are LOADED but her mom still has the original gold ring her dad made for her in art school when they were young and broke.

  9. I have been without internet for a long two months. My beautiful 24" iMac had been sitting in my apartment all that time seeing very little use. When I finally got connected yesterday, your blog was one of the first pages I visited. I am obsessed with your brain (in the least creepy way possible). I cannot handle these rings and how adorable you two are. Congratulations! :)
