Wes Anderson is easily one of my favorite directors. His impeccable, obsessive-compulsive attention to detail. The art direction by his brother, Eric Chase Anderson, is enviable.
His illustrations are throughout the set of the Royal Tenenbaums, which he did a lot of the production design for. This film is why I want to run away to New York and do set design.
But what absolutely took my breath away was the luggage, by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, in The Darjeeling Limited.
That and Adrian Brody running in slow-motion.
GAH!
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW how I feel about this.
Yes, this post was sparked by our multiple and ongoing discussions regarding Wes Anderson movies and how perfect they are. I need to watch Rushmore again, though.
ReplyDeleteBottle Rocket is my first and true love. Probably because I saw it before the others. I think my second favorite is Life Aquatic.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Royal Tenenbaums, Aquatic Life and Darjeeling.
ReplyDeleteThey are such great films.
Definitely original story ideas.
Stumbled upon your blog and can't stop reading - it's been a few hours now :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, about Wes Anderson and The Royal Tenenbaums... Several years ago, I worked for a photo lab in LA that processed all daily/publicity stills for major movie studios, and one of my duties was to perform quality control of images that were leaving the lab. I actually got to work on the film that was shipped to us from the sets of The Royal Tenenbaums (pre-production and actual shoots), and from the very first glimpse into the sets with the illustrations I couldn't wait for the film to be released! It was captivating - trying to guess a story that of course couldn't be guessed - and falling in love with the picture before it came out...
Peanut - I'm so glad you stumbled upon J&K!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest story. I guess you were disappointed when the actual movie came out? I'm home sick today - I think I might try watching as many Wes Anderson movies as possible.
